Apple iTunes coming to the Windows Store

Possibly, but I wouldn't go ahead with news, unless I hear directly from Apple.

Hopefully its a redesigned app and not the old bloated win32 crapware repackaged with the centennial bridge into a store app

I suspect that's exactly what it is.

I won't allow iTunes anywhere near my systems. It's far too imperialistic. But maybe a Centennial wrapper will confine it.

iTunes is fine these days. I've used it since taking up an Apple Music subscription (for no reason other than to give all the streaming options a try at some point - free trial so why not) and as a whole package I think Apple have the best music streaming service on the market.

Updates to iTunes in the last few months have greatly improved usability imo, and the large assortment of curated playlists rival Spotify. Being able to upload your entire music library and have it stored safely in the cloud is really great too, and one of my favourite features. Only Google and Apple offer a seamless cloud library, and Apple has a much larger allowance for uploads. Easily worth tolerating iTunes, which isn't great, but is alright.

It runs smoother on Win7, but it has the same problems as before. By example how it handles apps which are not found in the local library? Find the app, for the previously purchased item it shows [download] button. Click download. It does nothing for a while, then triggers downloading all previously purchased apps which are not found in the local library.

It is even worse. Previously download window was a separate window, you could select multiple apps and remove from the list. Now it is a simple drop down box, you can only select one app a time.

The same happens when you go to the menu and select "Check for available downloads".

I have no idea what you're talking about. Sounds like iPhone shenanigans. Get an Android rather - has a better Apple Music app anyway since the big update a while ago.

You didn't read the post. Itunes running on PC is doing this. It has nothing to do with iPhone when iTunes is connecting to the AppStore.

Besides I don't like Android, as when you install the app Android forces you to accept the entire list of permissions the app is requesting. In iOS I can select and de-select access rights when desired in the Settings menu. There is also a system popup window when the app request live access to some components like a microphone.

I did read the post. It clearly is an iPhone issue, as you wouldn't have the issue if you weren't an iPhone user. Issues relating to iPhone don't necessarily have to take place on a physical iPhone. If I couldn't transfer files to my phone from a PC, then I'm having an Android issue not on the Android device.

Since 6.0 Nougat, Android lets you revoke permissions for apps from the settings menu (or just dragging an app to the info option or holding down on any app and selecting info). Also, by default apps do not have any of the permissions they need. You receive a prompt to allow each type of permission, and the apps accommodate your selection by disabling functionality or presenting an error message with a proper explanation about why it needs the permission to operate. Which is largely exactly what you were talking about with the pop-up windows.

.LOL. It comes from the person who is content from iTunes. For me Tunes is the weakest element in Apple ecosystem. Regarding transfering files, everything in Apple works the best if you use all Apple equipment. So perhaps you wouldn't have problems when transfering files between MAC and iPhone, I don't know. It is a problem indeed when transfering files between Windows PC and iPhone. At first place I was stupid enough to try Bluetooth, learned quickly that iPhone Bluetooth stack is only a skeleton, only suitable for streaming music. :(

I posted on this forum and got couple replies with possible solutions. It turned out that all you need is an app on the iPhone which works with a companion app on PC, or the app using more generic services like WebDav (server or client), ftp or SMB shares. As I don't use Windows shares on my Internet connection, I settled for an USB stick on the router running SAMBA server.

Regarging Android, it is nice to hear that Android is growing up. The last iOS upgrades bring only cosmetical changes or improvements to the new hardware like touchID which I don't have or cloud services which I don't use. Platform is not improving to accomodate increased processing power. Having said that, if you still have your iPhone and you didn't change your mind, pls let me know, as iOS upgrade to iOS7 has crippled my iPhone 4, it's a time for an upgrade. :)

My opinions of iPhone were formed with an iPhone 7 (which now sits unloved in a cupboard as a spare phone for whichever unlucky sod in the family breaks their phone first). How you can be a fan with a prehistoric iPhone 4 I don't know.

I'm not having issues transferring files to Android. It was just a hypothetical example.

Because everything works as advertised (at least how it worked before upgrading to iOS7). I wonder why you call it prehistoric. This phone set the fundation for all modern smartphones. Everybody has copied ideas from iPhone. I also use iPad with the latest iOS10 (which I am passing to the family member now), so I can compare. As I said before, Apple hasn't changed much from iPhone 4 (iOS6), productivity issues are the same, you are right on this. Apple is slowly losing to the Android, but due to the quality of Apple software I see is no reason to keep iPhone 7 in the drawer.

iPhone has copied as much as others have copied from it. My step-bro had an iPhone 4 soon after release and was insanely jealous of my Samsung S3 shortly thereafter.

I call the iPhone 4 prehistoric because it is. It's 7 years old and has a 3.5" display. My granny's iPhone 4s is a slow piece of s**t with nothing but WhatsApp installed, so yours must really be suffering.

My mom has the 9.7" iPad Pro, and iOS works much better on a large display than it does on a phone imo. My mom had first dibs on my step-dad's iPhone but passed it along until it ended up in the cupboard as a spare. I enjoy using the iPad too, but will never consider an iPhone unless it receives a big overhaul sometime.

I'm starting to wonder if you've ever used a nice Android device. It also takes a bit of effort to make sure you're running the right 3rd party apps for most things, but that's something you do once and takes very little time.

Yes. Considering comparison to 4s you evidently don't have an idea how much it does. Apple has effectively killed my phone with upgrade to iOS7.

Regarding 3.5" display I disagree. It is the best size (max 4", depends on your fingers) to use single hand in all situations. You forgot what functionality you are losing when operating larger screen. :)

//getting popcorn. :)

My granny can't do anything other than receive calls and post to the family WhatsApp group. I help her with the phone every week or so to deal with the accumulating notifications and any queries she has. I'm well aware of what a slow POS the thing is. And 'how much' it does is limited too, considering how many apps require a newer version of iOS to install.

If 3.5-4" was the best size for a display, then that's the display size most people would want. But no, consumer demand has forced Apple to offer a 4" SE model to a vocal minority and have the vast majority of iPhones ship with either a 4.7" or 5.5" display.

Also, why would you want to only use (or even primarily use) a phone with one hand? If you're concentrating on your phone to do something, then you can afford to use both hands. It's faster to have a hand free to operate the device and safer to hold your phone securely with the other hand. And it also lets you enjoy a much larger screen with a much better battery. It's an overwhelming set of benefits that more than outweighs the inconvenience of clumsy one-handed use once in a blue moon. And even then, one handed use is easier than you think thanks to tricks you can use in both iOS and Android (Plus model iPhones have a reachability feature that's enabled by lightly tapping the home button twice if you didn't know).
