Apple joins browser wars

September? Getting a new mac then?

Yeep. Going back to the states and will pick up an new Macbook while there. Pity Leopard won't be available until afterwards (October). :( Will have to try and get a quick update right away.

Finally, someone see the light. Apple arent as brilliant as everyone makes them out to be.

The more Apple move into the mainstream the more dissent they will come across. Not everyone likes Apple but most of us usve just ignored them until they have started pushing themselves into our lives ;)

I don't like Apple's arrogance or designs myself. Yes I know I am in the minority against a vocal majority on this forum but seriously a white rectangle and everyone thinks it's fantastic? WTF?

I think Firefox is faster on XP. Just tried it and will stick with FF on Windows until something better comes along. Only reason I started using FF on my iBook is because I have safari 1, and it was getting dated. My wife still refuses to use FF and sticks with Safari on it though.

I don't know what those testers were smoking
As far as speed is concerned, Opera 9.21 download pages 3 times faster on my PC.
(Did clear the cache before I started comparing)

Safari was horrible - I switched back to Safari after ver2 and was blown away by the differences. :) I'll have to wait for the plugins to be updated before I switch to 3.

Hey Apple must updated there website in the last day or so.
Its looking pretty cool... Navigation at the top and bottom is easier..

Anyways
I'm keen to see what they're up to so i'll go give it a download and try it out for a tiny bit.

Apple's font smoothing is far superior to XP's cleartype, that's the main thing for me... also love that the print effect has been ported.

Still an Opera fan though, but using Safari for now

And dont forget Safari's Porn mode - aka private browsing - instant footprint eraser.

Pretty damn sleek browser. I must admit. Looks pretty cool. And it is frigging fast!

So I'm using it now.
The font smoothing is great. [subjective opinion here...]
No problems yet.
So i'll continue using it =)

I can't change proxy settings... it's greyed out
oh well back to ff

I've decided not to even try it :D

I'm too confident in Opera, if it's really faster I'd like to see some results, they only mention IE and FF, so I'm assuming it's slower than Opera. Also development on Opera is always fast and brings great results, I'll see what Safari can do before bothering with a switch over...

They do mention speeds against Opera..
The comparison graph thing is on the webpage..

That demo on the site doesn't show anything that FF2 doesn't already offer (except maybe dragging a tab onto desktop to open a new window, which I'd never do anyway). I'm not about to install yet another browser just for claimed Javascript performance.

Aah well I just read the article on MyADSL which only quoted the speeds against IE and FF for some reason. If it was 1.6% faster than FF is it really faster than Opera? And unfortunately theres no way a graph on their site promoting their new browser is going to be accurate.

I usually download every browser out there, but I'm just not very excited about this one, I think it looks prety bad :(

I love the way Safari handles the fonts. Much beter than the others imo. Not a bad product - but the speed is a lie.

not really excited bout safari either,

so far it doesnt seem any faster than opera or firefox imo, and it's buggy as hell, but i guess since it's beta that's to be expected. but the worst is, that it crashes everytime i want to report a bug, now how the hell am i supposed to report that? :p

opera has been able to do that for ages... :p

no way man, it's awful, everything is uber bold and ten times bigger... looks horrible
