Apple joins browser wars

never needed to setup fonts for a browser before...

where do i do that?
I usually do - different strokes for different folks.

Where? Prefs (ctrl + ,) > Appearance.

turned the font smoothing to 'light', looks a bit better, but some stuff is still way to bold, and this is with the same font as used in Opera...

anyways, hopefully it's improved by the time it gets to the final version, but it'll take a lot to get me to switch from Opera :p

I must say the more I use Safari the more I like it. The bookmark bar is awesome. One can drag links onto this bar and then access them in a wiz.

was impressed by safari, but not enough to move me away from firefox, especially after reading this :
http://www.engadget.com/2007/06/12/apples-safari-a-windows-security-risk/

guess i'll be hanging on for a few more builds, and just carry on using it to test web development in the meantime
Really? I prefer the way safari manages colour.

When I look at http://farm1.static.flickr.com/99/364350643_263b9591da_o.jpg or http://farm1.static.flickr.com/168/364350701_923e9fda3c_o.jpg in each browser I see a vast difference.

Looks like Firefox is showing the images as they really are where Safari is brightening them.

It's not. The images are supposed to look like they do in Safari.

I open the sample pic in:

Netscape
Firefox
IE
Paint
Paintshop

all look exactly the same - dark. I'm with noxibox. I might even try downloading Saf-crap-ari to check.

Edit. Nah - never liked it anyway.

Interesting bwana, do you know why that is? I've been googling trying to find an explanation, but nothing yet.

Oh, and which browser do you generally use? (Not trying to stir, just that most Macists that I know prefer FF)

Safari respects embedded colour profiles if they're present.

I use Safari and Camino - FF is too darn slow on a mac.

i briefly gave it a look. took 20 minutes to install. next time i'm in xp will give it a serious go. though it did seem not to be able to handle sites with embedded wm video.

The more Apple move into the mainstream the more dissent they will come across. Not everyone likes Apple but most of us usve just ignored them until they have started pushing themselves into our lives ;)

I don't like Apple's arrogance or designs myself. Yes I know I am in the minority against a vocal majority on this forum but seriously a white rectangle and everyone thinks it's fantastic? WTF?

I am not against most thing, as they exist cause they have a place. What I am against is them saying it is better, then give some flakey BS unsubstantiated reason. Basically they have brainwashed people into thinking their product is superior with slogans like "It just works". And then get people to regurgitate the slogans back to you.

And at the end of the day the product isnt superior at all. It is just a computer and is susceptable to all the glitches that computers have. What makes them stable is that it is a closed system. You cant just run off and grab some garage product and use it. And dont even think of writing your own. I challenge Mac to open up their system, then lets see how stable it is.

What are you talking about now? Of course you can write your own software. Apple announced Safari at the developers conference.

The only thing funnier than the fanboi's are the 'haters'. For some reason seeing people content infuriates them. :D

Anyway 'Its just a computer' (in this case a browser) - the more choice there is, the more innovation arises and everyone wins.
