Apple Mac Support

CellC works right out of the box on my laptops (windows and ubuntu), sorry for the Mac users, other people`s hardware was never a forte of macs.

This is a breach of contract. Not cool.
To be fair though, the packaging of the Cell-C E1820 states under System Requirements:
Mac OS X 10.4 and 10.5 with latest upgrades
I think this will be resolved by an update soon, Huawei are very popular modems.

Lucky I read this... I wanted to get one of these modems. I think I will rather wait a bit.

But why don't you get your money back? You bought something that don't even work. That's not cool.

Hopefully, CellC will fix this problem.

I have no problem with my CellC modem and my Macbook Pro. It work out of the box and I absolutely love the cellc software as I can send and receive sms messages as well as do ussd messages.

Which modem is this ? White (E1752) or Black (E1820) ? Why does yours work and others do not ?

Others reported problems with the E1820 - if you have an E1820 then this sounds like an OS configuration issue (or OS patch version).

Apple does seem a bit slow and stubborn in this department.... just like with the flash, and java... they don't want it, it goes. Glad to hear it will still work on my mbp tho

Which model modem and Mac do you have?

I was at a friend's yesterday evening, we tried to install the Cell-C black modem (E1820) on his i5 MacBook Pro bought about 6 months ago with OS X 10.6.4.
After inserting the modem, the virtual CD-ROM appeared with the Cell-C application, double-clicking made the icon zoom as if the application was starting, but then nothing, no error messages at all.

We were able to set up a dial-up networking connection and use the modem which was fast, but the dashboard just would not work.

I'm a ardent Mac user. I have used the so called 4G E1820 stick in a router and connect both my desktop and Laptop Macs to the internet. I'm also unable to send email using the smtp.cmobile.co.za or the smtp.cellc.co.za setting. I'm confused though because it did work when I first used it but now fails all the time. My second gripe not having Mac dashboard software I'm unable to keep track of my data balance. I tried the Cellc website by logging in and its useless it does not work. I was reluctant to buy the data contract with CellC as I have had previous bad experience with then, I was impressed with the price and the download speed was fair, I was not fooled by there 4G claim and brought it up with the salesman but it went over his head. Give it a while this network will soon be saturated and we will have to move off elsewhere.

3G USB routers are quite cheap now (and you even get portable ones like the Huawei E585). I would recommend that Mac users go this route, it will avoid some of these issues.

Also has anyone had problems with the E1752 (white) modem ?

Hi zedman,

We will be posting the latest MAC drivers for our Speed Sticks on our Cell C Webpage soon, we currently busy with the final tests.

Just a warning to everyone who owns a 2010 Macbook Pro i5 or i7:

Cell C's 4G usb modems do not work with these computers. The Macbook Pro i7s will not even connect at all and the i5s freeze after connecting. I've tried to resolve this issue with Cell C but they have no solution yet. :(

The problem is with i5 and i7 Macbook Pros. The Cell C modems work on all Core 2 Duos.

When I said earlier there is a hardware incompatibility issue, the hardware is only incompatible right now because there is no driver to make it compatible.

Are you sure? As I posted previously, a friend and I were able to use the Cell-C E1820 modem on his i5 MacBook Pro using dial-up networking, we just unable to use the Cell-C dashboard.

Tested the Cell C modem in another Macbook Pro i7 and same story. The modem definitely does not work on the i7 Macbook Pros but it does work on the older ones.

Two black cellc dongles worked ok for me on a iMac i7, MacBook pro and Mac mini?

I guess CellC has to work with the modem supplier on fixing this issue.

I'm using the e1820 on my macbook 2007 model, dashboard works but don't like it, I need to figure out how to force 3G and connect without dash on OSX, stuck on edge ATM.
