You are blindly throwing your money at the company because jobs had a good with the iPhone one. Then they just started patient trolling instead of inventing. Now that Apple is finally catching up on things done 5years ago by other manufacturers you guys jump on the bandwagon.

Eish... maybe you'd make a case for yourself if you actually knew what you are talking about.

As for the brains of the Pencil, there's an 32-bit RISC ARM-based Cortex-M3 MCU from ST Micro, a Bluetooth chip from Cambridge Silicon Radio (which is now part of Qualcomm), and at least five other chips with unknown functions. Powering all this is a tiny 3.82 V, 0.329 Wh lithium-ion battery. There's also the antenna and pressure and angle sensors near the tip.

Keep buying into the apple marketing.

Remember when they 4s was the perfect size and anything bigger was pointless?

Remember when the note was mocked for having a stylus?

Come please enlighten me then. What makes this $99 apple branded stylus so special?

Core's Apple Pricing is actually not that bad recently.

Take the $100 apple Pencil = R1500 + VAT 14% = R1710
So thats then only R290 markup.

The new Apple TV is $150 = R2250 + VAT 14% = R2565 And Core sell it for R2499.

I know that Apple Resellers in SA only have 5-10% margins on Products they make most of their money from Accessories

All done using Dollar @ R15

By the way those were the sentiments of Jobs, it was after his death that Apple started to expand its product base.

I'm sure they don't pay US retail pricing and get distributor pricing from Apple

Why do you care if other people choose to buy an Apple product ? I doubt they where thinking "hey that Baxteen dude will be really annoyed if a buy an Apple product. I go buy one just piss him off :)

Since nobody in this thread indicated that you would be somehow at fault for not buying Apple, why don't you just move on :)

Sorry but holy ****! R2200 for a "pencil"!

Yes I know it's way more complex than that.

Tell what's your take on the Pro? What sold it for you?

We do pay a lot for Apple products here in ZA. Unfortunately its the nature of the beast. Also, be careful when comparing US prices because unless you're lying on the customs forms when it gets to ZA and you add the courier processing fees (i often refer to it as daylight robbery) and customs, VAT etc you are sometimes only about R100-R200 off ZA pricing.

As regards the anti-Apple comments, they are best ignored. If using Apple Pencil and what it does for you is worth R1999, buy it. If it doesn't, don't buy it. its simple, and its why we have Samsung, Sony and so many other brands. Not everyone will like Apple, not everyone will like Sony and so forth.

My 2c is that out of the many Apple products i've owned i've found them to be nothing more than efficient, quality-built and problem-free for my needs be it entertainment or business. So i will always buy Apple products. If someone else doesn't feel that way so be it.

You could have at least referenced impartial websites.

What's impartial about the Verge? imore, granted.

Try these:

Pen Addict
PC Mag
TabletPCReview
Creativebloq
Fantasticmaps

They (and many others) are pretty unanimous that the Pencil is a game-changer...

So yes, R2k is ridiculously expensive – but then it appears that there is nothing else out there like the Pencil<>iPad Pro, so guess one gets what one pays for. Anyone dismissing the Pencil as 'just a plastic stylus' after the above, is trolling. It's not "just" a stylus.

Whether you need it, want to spend that money on one, is a completely different question. But anyone arguing that Apple is ripping a new one by charging R2k for a piece of plastic, doesn't know what they're talking about. My 2 cents.
