Apple removes Epic's developer account

Whaaa? No one forced them to sign anything...they did not have to release their stuff on iOS. And there's nothing from stopping Timmy and his merry band of sour billionaires to create their own phone and do with it what they want. Besides, US courts ruled in Apple's favour regarding TOS agreements, you simply can't just sign it, willingly break it, and then play injured bird like Timmy does.
Yeah either sell on it or not. It's not like there are others wanting to offer alternative stores and also side loading, oh wait...

The point is Apple wants to control absolutely everything on a piece of hardware they sell. It's actually surprising they got away with it so long especially in the EU which takes a VERY dim view on practices even remotely like that.

TL;DR If the lion has you by the balls what else are you gonna do?

Are you sure? I’ve seen Chrome, Firefox, Brave, DuckDuckGo, Edge…
He might be thinking of another system component where Apple does prevent you from using a 3rd party app. Can't remember what it was right now.

I think you are trying to infer WebKit, but it goes beyond just the render engine. Every browser on iphone is Safari.

We need more de Googled phones. There's a couple out there but none ship to SA as far as I can tell.

More pricey

Apple is desperate to keep ownership of the devices users buy.

It’s not really just about that.

Read this with an open mind and ask yourself if it makes sense that they should get nothing out of it.

So why should Apple spend resources to help them get away with everything for free and then make a huge profit off it.

They need to find their own way of doing it without Apple…that is what they wanted after all.

Are you being serious now?

Are you being an idiot?

Again read this objectively and tell me why Apple should spend their resources anf get NOTHING for it while Epic take in millions?

It makes no sense for Apple to basically give it away to Epic. If Epic wants to side load that’s fine but they can then do it without using Apple’s store or resources to do it.

How can you possibly see Apple as the criminals here and not Epic?

That's an an 'objective' Apple article on the situation about how they made Spotfy what they are today?
Oh gosh ... it's about how Apple made Spotify into what they are & how awesome Apple is in everything they do  They keep dreams alive .

This may be something @neoprema wants to print out for bed time reading

" ... have helped make them one of the most recognizable brands in the world ... a large part of their success is due to the App Store ... We’re proud to play a key role supporting Spotify’s success ... Starting out as a small startup in Stockholm, Sweden, Spotify has grown their company into the largest digital music business in the world (because of iOS) ... and thanks in part to the App Store, eclipsed every other digital music business in the world ... Every day, teams at Apple work to keep that dream alive'

as well as

".. and pays Apple nothing for the services that have helped make them one of the most recognizable brands in the world ... Despite that success, and the App Store’s role in making it possible, Spotify pays Apple nothing ... And there are many more ways Apple creates value for Spotify, at no cost to their company ... And again — Spotify pays Apple nothing ... benefit from the trust we’ve built with users — and to pay Apple nothing for it"

I could not care less about Epic/Google/M$/Any-other-company/Amazon-appstore-on-android/you name it.

What we have here is a very serious and serial antitrust offender - apple.

That in itself is not a problem - if addressed the way M$ was sorted out in 2001, and intel settled in 2009.

However that is very unlikely to happen.

I'm interested in this part

"Our engineering helps ensure that Spotify’s apps can work seamlessly with Siri, CarPlay, Apple Watch, AirPlay, Widgets, and more"

According to Apple, they have super helpful & friendly engineers just waiting to help and 'build dreams'

But hte 'article' is in contrast to

  • Siri Launches on the iPhone, but won't pay Spotify
  • When Apple launches their new Apple Watch, they dismiss our proposals and won’t work with us to develop an app for it
  • Now that Apple has Apple Music, rejections of the Spotify app start becoming more and more common, and they even go as far as threatening to remove us from the App Store
  • We submit a new proposal for a streaming app directly on the Apple Watch. Apple declines.
  • With WatchOS 4, Apple continues to make it challenging for us to deliver a workable streaming solution for the Apple Watch
  • Apple rejects Spotify app again
  • Apple HomePod launches without Spotify support

@Hush9300

Do you remember our whole discussion about guidlines in the Apple Vision and Netflix article ?
I mentioned the guideline and interference by Apple?
And you couldn't understand what that meant because you had your Apple glasses on?

Take off the glasses & read the article
