You mean import directly? I don't think it would work out much cheaper: The cheapest new Mac Min is $600. At today's exchange rate of R10.5/$ish, and adding in VAT, we get about R7200 (and that's without shipping + hassle of the half-wits at customs ). The mispricing is at Apple's end.

You should be able to avoid that by choosing your retailer carefully (state). I think? (bwana is the man for this sort of info).

I remember doing a similar calculation for an imported MacBook last year, and again it worked out to be almost exactly the CORE price (no specials or discounts at the US end). Must admit that another factor was: it arrives DOA in SA.... then what? the possible hassle was just too great.
