Apple Silicon M5

Or Ugreen.

I don't have experience with Ugreen but I found that Unitek and McDodo (Qualcomm) have been having issues negotiating current with LG laptops and so causing issues which caused the device to stop being powered by them, AnkerPrime 120W does not have this issue. It has a better Infineon chip which negotiates better with the computer's controller.

Apple prefers that people in Europe go with the likes of Anker. If buying a charger may as well get one which can also charge your phone, watch, tablet and notebook, often at the same time.

Anker tend to be lighter and smaller and have more ports. Some even have displays which show you the current output like their recently release portable 140W charger. The only benefit the Apple charger has is that it identifies its serial number and amperage in Mac OS utilities eg Coconut Battery or Al Dente.
I've had two anker Anker 67W USB C Chargers and a UGreen 3 Port GAN 65W PD Wall Charger fail over the past couple of years and always at an inopportune time. In each case the main usb-c port is the culprit. So yeah, they're handy but unreliable. I was about to buy the Anker USB C Plug, 543 (65W II) PIQ 3.0 and GaN the other night but ended up cancelling the order after reading the unfavourable, but all too familiar, reviews on Amazon.

Seeing as I'm a glutton for punishment I recently bought a UGREEN Nexode Power Bank 20000mAh 130W Portable Charger that I'm happy with, so far.

Glad the powerbank is holding out.

So far so good with my Ankers, the McDodo 120W is iffy and the Unitek has been OK except in certain scenarios (LG Gram latop). Only had an LG charger fail but not because of any internal failure, the proprietary cable frayed. Once years ago an Acer charger overheated and 'reset' itself but that was because I had buried it under a couch pillow while gaming. It performed well after that. I have 4 Ankers - a 250W desk based which also functions as a clock/calendar, 2x 120W GanPrimes (one donated to my dad) and while in Europe recently I got a good deal on a local Amazon for Anker's newish 140W charger with display and foldable plug. I had to get it, given higher capacity Ankers are simply not available in SA and Anker Amazon does not ship them here.

Ideally you'd probably want to stick to the stock charger as its more fine tuned to your Apple computer, but as Apple is now making this more difficult up north, people may decide to consolidate.

I read that it is preferable to go with higher capacity and operate the power brick at say 50% limit than closer to the upper end as that sometimes overheats the tinier adapters, as these GaN chargers tend to be tightly packed. The Apple has a huge brick so it can dissipate heat easier.

The power supply thing really doesn’t bother me tbh. Been using the same 61w Apple charger for everything for years now. Probably frustrating if it’s your first product with usbc though.

Second, it does not ban companies from supplying a charger at no additional cost. It merely says consumers must be offered the choice.

It would obviously be equally wasteful to make two versions of MacBook Pro packaging in Europe – one with a charger, the other without. For that reason, it makes absolute sense that Apple doesn’t include the charging brick in the box.

But Apple would be perfectly free to simply ask people, “Would you like a charger with that?” (shades of McDonalds …) and if they said yes, to throw it in free of charge. The fact that the company charges for those who do want one is a commercial decision by Apple, not a requirement of the law.

Are you outraged? Have you not heard? Apple updated its entry-level MacBook Pro with a new M5 chip, and across Europe, it does not ship with an A.C. adapter in the box as standard any more. It still comes with a USB-C to MagSafe cable, and you can add an adapter at checkout, but those meddling E.U. regulators have forced Apple to do something stupid and customer-unfriendly again. Right?

William Gallagher, of AppleInsider, gets it wrong:

Don’t blame Apple this time — if you’re in the European Union or the UK, your new M5 14-inch MacBook Pro or iPad Pro may cost you $70 extra because Apple isn’t allowed to bundle a charger.

First of all, the dollar is not the currency in any of these countries. Second, the charger in European countries is €65, which is more like $76 right now. Third, Apple is allowed to bundle an A.C. adapter, it just needs to offer an option to not include it. Fourth, and most important, is that the new MacBook Pro is less expensive in nearly every region in which the A.C. adapter is now a configure-to-order option — even after adding the adapter.

Yeah I just got one of these, couldn't be happier.

Charges everything as quickly as possible and never gets hot.
A +/-R5k USB-C charger, that's pushing the envelope a bit, even if it is 300W.
The problem with that vs buying say 2 separate smaller chargers is if it breaks you lose the R5k all in one go

So the reason why I bought this is because I hated having multiple chargers, I also have a 40000mAh Romoss powerbank that'll do 65w in and out so if I need to charge everything really quickly it's a matter of plugging them all in at once.

It's also a godsend when traveling or on the road because you can simply put a bunch of stuff on charge if you stop for breakfast or something.

You can actually get it for far cheaper, check out Lazada it's huge in Asia, I paid about R2000, just convert baht to rand.
It comes with a 2 year international warranty.
I mean that is true, however the build quality on this is exceptional.

Yeah shipping and duties are a mutha.
My family visits SA like once/twice a year, could always ask them to bring it in.
I brought mine with the box in my suitcase, zero issues.
