Amazing then that every phone manufacturer has been trying to catch up ever since! Before the iPhone was launched in 2007 the Blackberry was the most popular smartphone. Where are they now? The original Android prototype phone were based on the BB design - they quickly switched to touchscreens after the iPhone was released.
Remember, the original iPhone was only available in the US, so Samsung made phones that deliberately looked similar, and flooded the rest of the world with these lookalikes.
Samsung have improved their designs, and the S3 is a great phone, but they grew their smartphone business based on originally copying the iPhone design, and then improving on that.
Trying to catch up? LOL
