Yes, but that is the amount that was thrown around by the financial press.

But the amount is not the issue, the blatant dishonesty by Apple is the issue. Why would you trust a company like that ?

Right, so there's your history. Google were in partnership with Apple and had insight into the iPhone development. Realized its potential and started shopping around for a smartphone platform that they could use - all while professing to be noncompetitive. Bought Android in secret while still keeping Steve Jobs on Google board. Redesigned Android to resemble iOS UI and took strategy of giving it away for free in the hope of generating revenue from Adsense.

Why do you trust Google? They've been slapped how many times now for misuse of private data, intellectual theft, etc?

I cannot see why it would be unethical if Google to want to get their own mobile OS?

As far as failings of others go ... copying etc ... my argument has always been against the way Apple are dealing with the copycats (Samsung ... whomever). I'm not saying Samsung is innocent. I'm saying that Apple should do what Braun did (your own example). Use the copying against the copycats and give the public a positive message ... not all the negative bully behaviour. I've said this so many times by now but all you iFans read is ... Apple hater ... Apple hater ...

Android as an operating system was created independently from Google. Google's acquisition of Android however is a different story.

But Apple went into the phone market "in secret", so surely this is again the pot calling the kettle black?

If they leveraged their insider-privileged relationship with Apple to create a competitive and imitative OS in secret I'd call that unethical.

I know your point, I'm just not sure why you target Apple with such particular vitriol? History's shown here they're all the same. Drown the whole bag of kittens or just accept that it's a rotten broken system. In many ways, to me, Microsoft has acted far nastier than Apple, and with much less publicity and open spleen.

If Apple openly discussed iPhone development in front of Google while the world knew they where working on their own counterpart, they must have idiots working for them. I think not, as Apple is bloody good at keeping secrets, hell just look at how good they are at keeping new releases from the public

I have not seen anything here that will change my mind.

Apple are suing all and sundry with improperly obtained patents while refusing to pay royalties on Samsung's FRAND patents.

But I'm sure that the USA courts will eventually get it right - the others are already doing so.

I just hope that Samsung can interdict the iPhone 5 from the USA based on the LTE patents, that will be a good way to get the ball rolling.

Basically implies that Apple would not have demonstrated secret information in front of Google.

So that excuse is all hogwash.

Apple are just unethical, plain and simple.

Could be. Never said I loved Google. All I see is a company that outwitted Jobs and Apple using tactics typically associated with Apple and Jobs.

But as I said ... I've never stated that I approve of Google or their ways. I just like Android more than I do iOS.

Now Apple are trying to make it right by abusing the broken USA patent system.

Here is Josh Topolsky previewing Android in 2007. This is the OS Google were working on while - thanks for correcting me - they had Eric Schmidt sitting on the Apple BoD.

Apple launched the iPhone in January of 2007. Eleven months later, in November of 2007, Google showed a video that effectively juxtaposed Google-Android's original pre-iPhone "before" prototype which looked and operated more like a Blackberry button-driven phone, with Google-Android's post-iPhone-launch "after" prototype that heavily-resembled the look-and-feel of the iPhone and incorporated many of Apple's signature touch-screen inventions. In October 2008, T-Mobile released the G1, Google's first Android phone.
