Hi

I'm looking at the Apple TV to stream content off my pc to my hometheatre and would like to know from anyone using this whether it uses any of your internet bandwidth or not?

If I understand how it works correct then the Apple TV should be able to play the content off the pc's iTunes library using my wireless router to connect the device to the pc, i.e. network traffic should only be over LAN (not connecting to the internet)

Problem is I've googled and found some posts where the Apple TV streams the content off the pc via the internet thus eating bandwith.

I would appreciate if someone who runs a setup like this could please shed some light for me?

Can't answer your question 100%, I have never been able to get either of my apple TVs to sync with iTunes. Haven't tried that hard tbh. Personally I have jailbroken them and am running XBMC which works amazingly well.

Sent from my GT-N7000 using MyBroadband Android App

I'm not sure if things have changed but one of my main reasons for not getting the Apple TV is due to (at the time of me wanting one) it only being able to stream PURCHASED content and only supported Apple formats. Was kind of a buzz kill. I now stream content (like movies) to my Xbox 360 and that works brilliantly as it supports a ton more formats and goes through my home theatre system.

Nope, it streams from iTunes on your PC/Mac. All local, all free.
It *can*, but doesn't have to, stream from the iTunes Store (which is over the internet). These are rental and purchases

Thats a lie. I have an appletv, and it streams all movies and tv shows I put into iTunes that I acquired from other sources
