Apple Watch thread

I got a Series 7 45mm Nike black Apple Watch today, and quickly discovered that straps are a problem in SA. As far as I can tell, there are hardly any available. I really wanted the black Nike nylon one but iStore didn't have it in 45mm. I assumed it would easy to find these things online via iStore, Macnificent, Takealot etc. but I'm finding basically nothing.

Wtf is this nonsense. Where do you guys buy your Apple-made watch straps from?
Amazon or US Apple and shipped this side sadly.

Wow that sucks. Guess it will have to wait until I'm in the US later this year because I can't be bothered to do all the MyUS hassle for some watch straps.

There are some decent replica straps but I found they end up making my arm itchy eventually :/

I just don’t buy the Apple straps, very happy with my nomad, it’s an actual Watch strap instead of that stupid underloop clipper crap from apple

I can see why it would be a problem as it’s a huge range and they’d likely sit with **** loads of surplus stock that doesn’t get sold.

That being said I used the standard strap that came with mine forever and a day which was the Nike one and then I upgraded to a Milanese loop clone and wore it for a while but it was quite annoying at times and I found myself switching between them based on occasion.

Then I upgraded to the larger Watch and I’ve stuck with the standards strap until now which isn’t as bad as I anticipated not having the holes in like the Nike one.

Now I have a mate coming in from the US who is bringing me one of the braided loop ones so very keen to see if it solves my issue with motorcycle gloves.

Ha, that’s one of the reasons I switched back from the Milanese loop because I much preferred the Apple system.

So much simpler and easier and once it’s on you don’t notice it at all.

Tried that one, tossed it in the bin the other day as it had been defatting my cupboard, was like 2 weeks before the elastic had worn out it it was much closer to a bangle than a watch.

Did you size it wrong maybe?

Also what is defatting?

Like my watches tight and as far as apple straps go my wrist is apparently small, I was on like the 4th hole on the smallest strap so it became annoying to get it on as it keeps hiking on me.

The nomad being a traditional watch strap is much nicer; fits very comfy and the only time is meh is as gym when doing kettle bell cleans and I need to turn the watch around, there the apple strap was nicer; but then I go back to the hooking issue.

Whoops, decorating… lol

I did yes, took the medium as the sizing guide said medium, took it back for the small which fitted nice for like a week, by the end of the second it was worthless and there is no extra small.

Makes sense as you’d have a lot of overlap then.

I have it on the last or second last hole of what I think is the smaller strap option, so very little to tuck away.

The great thing with the Apple Watch is having these options to customise.

I hate a tight fitting strap so the braided one should work well for me.

Have a link to this Nomad? I suspect I won’t like it for being too rigid. What I like about the standard silicone ones is that there is a bit of stretch comfort in them.

Not sure we are talking about the same thing as there are like 12 sizes in the ones I’m talking about.

It’s VERY specific about measurements.

And it’s because of that I don’t think we’ll see it locally as it’s a huge collection of stock to carry.

They have a leather option too, but 6 days a week at gym I’d obliterate anything leather.

I don’t like it like tight, but I like it that where I put it, it stays, the single loop was always sliding down.

Also something you’d want to try before you buy if at all possible.

Oh Lordy no that is so bulky I could never live with it and would I be far worse inside gloves I’m sure.

Weird you say the Apple one hooks and that doesn’t, but I’m guessing it’s the fact that it does hook but doesn’t move when it does.

See I’m the other way around I’m very uncomfortable with watches around my wrist bone so throughout the day I’ll move it behind or in front of my wrist bone depending on what I’m doing, so much prefer it with a little give.

Problem is with motorcycle gloves and possible related to angle when using the throttle, for extended trips I need to move it to my left hand otherwise it becomes annoying at first and downright painful after an extended period so much so it hurts in the evening after a long ride.

So I’m hopeful the braided option would allow it to more naturally, but failing that will make the transition from one arm to the other safer and easier.

It’s one thing Apple could really improve on, the shape and depth of the Heart Sensor underneath the watch which I’m sure is the primary reason I have pain from it.

By hook, remember the apple strap goes underneath, this goes over, so it’s hooking on my skin when trying to close it to twists it around my wrist, I’ve on more than one occasion pushed the entire strap out of the loop. Even when I pay attention and move with the “grain”.

My watch site behind my wrist bone, so forearm not wrist, but I’ve been wearing a watch since I was 5, been sleeping with one on since like 2012, had a Garmin Fennix before this so this is less bulky.

I bought a few of these from TAL: https://www.takealot.com/grey-blue-...ap-band-42-44mm-series-1-7-pifit/PLID70784142

They fit great, more comfortable than the silicon Apple bands. Obviously the Velcro deteriorates after a while but then again, it's only like R200 so it doesn't bother me.

I use the same sport loops, I have a couple of originals but actually prefer the fit of a decent quality copy from AliExpress as they are slightly more "rigid" (they don't feel as elastic and moveable on the wrist). I bought ten in various colours for less than the price of a single original.
