Apple working on cheaper iPhone Max model - Report

Apple plans to release a more affordable large-screen iPhone model in 2022, trusted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said in a note to investors.

9to5Mac reported that, according to Kuo's information, Apple will stick to four models for its annual flagship launch in the second half of 2022. This will once again consist of two high-end and two low-end offerings.

However, this time around it will also have a 6.7-inch option for its cheaper configuration, instead of just in the Pro category.

Again? Don't these cheaper models tend to not sell well and then they get abandoned pretty quickly, compared to other iDevices?

Is it? Hmm, then I'm misremembering.
What about that plastic iPhone they made? Did that one get dropped quickly?
All SE editions sell very poorly compared to the flagship devices. At least that is my perception of them in SA.
Apple are surprisingly better than Android/Google when it comes to updates over a period of time, they always support the phones for longer.

The screen size thing has been a pain point for a while to me, I refuse to pay an extra $200 for a larger screen. With Android phones this isnt a problem, with Apple it gets seen as a marketing thing and attracts a "premium" pricetag.

When I first started reading the article it sounded like I would be getting what I want, a reasonably priced iphone with a decent size screen.
Seems that it will be a decent size screen but not reasonably priced. So I guess Android it is for me then.

Oh yeah for sure. My sister is still getting security updates on her iPad Air (2013)

Security updates for sure but not much more and even that is changing with Android 10 and Project Mainline where core things are updated via the play store. Google themselves and most apps still support Android 5 that came out in 2014.

The only issue with the iPhone 12 Mini is its price. I'd love one, but I cannot justify spending R14k / R16k on a phone while my iPhone SE (2016) is still working, considering I only spend about 30 minutes per day using it.

Most of the time I read/write messages via the respective websites / desktop apps in any case.
