So I qualify for a Mauritian passport through birthright. My mom moved here 50+ odd years ago. Here's the problem, SA Home Affairs has a different name for her here and her place of birth in her SA documents shows a different country. Long story for another time. I do however have her Mauritian birth certificate.
I cannot at this stage show I am her son and entitled to said passport as my name follows my Mom's SA surname.
I've been pulling my hair out trying to figure a way of proving it but so far I have come up with 2 options:
1. Have her name in SA changed back to her real name. This is a bottomless black hole as far as I can see as we need to complete affidavits, publish in the government gazette of said name change and then finally it should be done (SA government inefficiencies discounted). The bigger problem is her place of birth is incorrect. How do I go about getting that rectified? Only once this is done can I ask for a reprint of my birth certificate and start the passport application.
2. Have her Mauritian name changed to her SA name. Then technically, it should be easy from there. I just don't know how to go about getting this done in Mauritius.

Changing a name in Mauritius is not taken lightly. Surname is almost impossible. First name/s is very onerous and is a lengthy process in both time and effort. Unless you live there, it won't be practical. Multiple interviews over several months with different rank police officers is just one of the requirements.
