Hi, I have just purchased a AR821-2CKT001 8CH Combo Kit from Esquire and am having difficulties setting up the E-mail and Dropbox. I have tried two separate SMTP setups. On my LAN at home I have a two SMTP mailboxes set up on my PC, as well as on my mobile phone, both work. I have tried setting up the AR821-2CKT00 to use either of these and neither is working. I tried using smtp.mweb.co.za port 25 and pop.pixelsandbits.co.za port 587 with authentication (my personal mailbox). Both of these work on my PC and mobile phone on my LAN over ADSL.

When I test the E-mail with my MWEB mailbox I get an error “Please check your input!”

On my other mailbox, kevin at pixelsandbits.co.za I also use on my PC and mobile phone which work I get this error on the “Failed,E-MAIL can’t be sent!”

I am also having difficulty setting up my Dropbox. I assume it is related to the problem I am having with the E-mail? I get this error “Activation fails, check the network configuration and parameters.”

According to their FAQ they refer to a GMail mailbox and SMTP server, I haven't tried using my GMail mailbox, I will try this this evening.

I have asked KGuard Support for help but still waiting a response.

Anyone got some experience on setting this up?

Kevin

Kguard support is pretty much a nonpoint,i've never seen them actually respond :P

Sounds like a networking issue if both are having problems. Are you using authentication on the Mweb acc as well? Who's your ISP

Ah, the joys of working with truly Chinese products :D

I have no experience with the kguard systems but a previous line of DVR's I worked with would simply refuse to send mail, no matter what we tried.

I would suggest you look for Skype contact details somewhere or failing that, call them directly.

Or just call esquire, now that I think of it :p

I actually got a response from KGuard Support, within an hour. They basically referred me to this FAQ, http://kguardsecurity.server289.com/kguard/KguardWEBSite/FAQ/ARseriesDVR/ARFE.zip
It refers to using a Gmail mailbox and SMTP server so I will try that this evening.

Step 6:
Sending interval: time interval to send email
SMTP server: smtp.gmail.com
SMTP port: 465
Connection security: SSL
Username: your e-mail address
Password: your e-mail address password

Step 7:
Click “Test” button to check email settings. If email setting is correct DVR will display “Email setting is right, an E-mail has been
/quote

I havn't tried using authentication on the MWEB mailbox as well. MWEB is my ISP.

After some further investigation trying to follow their example and use GMail's SMTP (smtp.gmail.com port 465) I get this error, "Failed,E-MAIL can't be Sent!" I did some further digging and set up my Outlook (and Outlook Express) to use smtp.gmail.com port 465 (with SSL and authentication) and I could not get it to work either. It continually prompts for Username/Password. I have allowed POP3 (and IMAP) via the Settings in the Gmail GUI if that makes any difference. I can make a connection when I telnet to smtp.gmail.com 465. Can you guys send email via smtp.gmail.com port 465? I am on a MWEB ADSL connection. Any help from you gurus out there will really be appreciated.

EDIT: I get the same error when using SMTP authentication against smtp.tiscali.co.za 25 (MWEB) - it does however work in OE

Aha, I'm getting somewhere :erm:

I eventually got an email from Google, not sure why only the one, despite spending two nights till the early hours of the morning trying to get this to work. I followed the link to the "Less secure apps" and Enabled it. I am now able to send email via smtp.gmail.com port 465. I still can't via MWEB or Hetzner's SMTP servers but Gmail will have to suffice. Now to get Dropbox to work.

I have my Email, Dropbox and Android push motion detection alerts up and running. The DVR is recording. All seems to be working as expected. This is a pretty configurable system. Their instructions have room for improvement. Their FAQ has room for improvement. This is good value for what I wanted to spend. I can honestly say I am very happy with the product and especially their Customer Service. I have received a response each time the same day, sometimes within an hour from their Customer Support. In fact they have even released an updated firmware for me that I still need to load.

Here are their contact details,

I received instruction from KGuard Support to upgrade from the current version of firmware (T20140626_84_T062684) to version T20131230_89_T123089. However this version is problematic and resulting in intermittent Email and Dropbox Alarm Alerts been sent. I am waiting further instructions from KGuard Support and Esquire

EDIT: I have 'upgraded' to the previous firmware version, system working reliably again.

I see Esquire are currently promoting these systems, if you have any experience (good or bad) please share here.

Sigh  The Dropbox stopped working on 09/09/2014 at 06h00. For no reason this is the last image that was uploaded. I have reset the DVR back to factory settings and reconfigured it. I have formatted the HDD. I have even created a new Dropbox account, all the same results, it only shows images up to 09/09/2014 06h00. The Push alerts to my Samsung Galaxy S4 work 100%. The email alerts to my Gmail mailbox work 100%. But for some reason the Dropbox uploads are just no longer working, I even reset the clock back to 01/09/2014, no difference

I can add that the Push Alerts to my Android Galaxy S4 has now also stopped working, despite uninstalling and reinstalling the app several times :(

Some further feedback if anyone is interested. Below is a response from KGuard Support;

"We have checked with our RD and found Dropbox has suddenly changed their " format " to upload
the image to the cloud. This unexpected change has affected the upload between KGUARD DVR and dropbox.
Hence we are forced to fix this issue and will provide an updated firmware for the dropbox upload to be done more stably.
We will keep you posted as long as the firmware has been updated.
Best Regards"

My Push Alarm Alarms to my cellphone is working again. I had to uninstall both KViewQR and New KView apps, reboot, reinstall only KViewQR and add the DVR and enable Push again.

The software is a little buggy and clumsy to configure but I must say I am happy with the support received from KGuard.

And the saga continues, I just received yet another updated firmware to use, this will fix the Dropbox issue they said  Well it didn't, Dropbox is still not working and now my E-Mail notifications are also no longer working  KGuard are investigating... Esquire are umm, well umm they have not yet set up such a device as "they don't have an Internet environment to test it in":confused::confused:

After all this time and several firmware updates this device is still not working reliably. Esquire do not have the ability to test the system themselves. Despite that all it takes is a ethernet connection and Internet access. I have emailed Esquire and asked what they will do about it. I wait their response. Do not consider buying a KGuard DVR System, you will be wasting your money and time.

How is the quality of the camera and the downloaded content (as in footage stored on the DVR) though? Is it clear and at what range do you find difficulty in identifying someones face?

Hi CamiKaze. The cameras you get in the kit are 3x 700 TVL and 1x 800 TVL (auto tracking). As far as analogue cameras go they are not bad. You can recognize a face up close, I would say within 5 meters. You cannot read a car number plate, unless it is right up against the camera. The recording on the DVR seems reliable, I have not had any issues with this. However the Email, Dropbox and Push notifications are not at all reliable. I am still having issues with this. Kguard Support are however being very helpful and have remotely logged into my DVR and trying to resolve the issue. The support received from Esquire has been useless.
If you want good resolution images then you need a digital system. These are a lot more expensive though.

hi sorry for this i finally took mine out of the archives and installed it - the 800 tvl camera is it only for indoors as that camera i just get white light outside but indoors it works fine?
