Aramex global shopper

Some clarity

1. They will not accept colour copies in general? So even if the colour copy is certified by a commisioner of oaths or police station; The fact that it is colour it will be a no no? . I know this sounds silly. But with government entities anything is possible

2. My cellphone account from Telkom verifies my phone number and home address. Would this document alone be fine for both address and cell phone ? ... My rates account has an erf number and not the physical address as per my normal

3. No id requirement I see in your post or even the document ... Is this right ?

4. Would taking this to any customs office also be fine? .... Like lanseria airport (they provide the number on the site ). Hate going into the sars branch

Oops. Definitely a certified copy of ID is required.
Don't risk printing and certifying unless you have no choice.
Yeah, cellphone account with address will do for both phone and address. Um, that sounds weird...
Lastly, you have to go to the SARS in the big smoke.
In Cape Town it is in Hans Strydom avenue... Now called something politically correct.

How long nowadays do packages sit at this stage?

will i be charged again ... later on for customs? or is it assumed that no customs for a 40usd item at this point (as Aramex would have covered it all)?

A word of warning to people ordering through Taobao (Shanghai) and using AliPay.

It works great, but if SARS wants a screen grab of the bank transaction, you're pretty screwed (as I found out).

How Taobao works is this - you order an item and pay for it through your card linked to AliPay.

A countdown clock is started from the moment you order, and the seller has a certain time to get it to you (or you get your money back).

Alipay is an escrow service, which means that the amount you pay is held by them, and the money only released to the Chinese merchant at the end of a count-down timestamp (if they have shipped).

Once the countdown clock reaches zero, Alipay release the money paid to the Chinese merchant and notify your bank of this. Your bank then moves the amount you paid from pending, and it will be finally be reflected on your statement. However, as there has been a shift in the exchange rate while the clock was running and AliPay was holding onto the money...the amount reflected in your account will differ from the initial amount paid.

I (hopefully) have got around this by making copies of the emails received from my bank which were received as soon as I paid AliPay. The time on the emails agree with the original order invoice time.

My bank statement is totally useless. Say I paid the merchant (AliPay) ¥223, which is R413 – I would immediately receive an email from the bank (or an SMS) attesting to this fact. However, at the end of the 10 day countdown timer, when the amount is finally reflected in my account, it is now R423, as the exchange rate has changed.

This is very interesting. Does AliExpress work in a similar way? They also use AliPay but I did not notice that the amounts I actually paid were different from the initial SMS received when you hit buy. The difference with AliExpress is that the waiting period is 60 days... which could or could not be in my favor

What a joke. My package was less than 3 days from the USA to Jhb and 2 weeks in customs.

My order arrived at the NY facility on 8 March. I am still waiting for it. It cleared customs on the 23rd, but only after I e-mailed for the second time.

How long typically from Shanghai to JHB?

So phoned AGS ... Shipment got cleared last night by customs ... Yet the status on the site is not reflecting the true status. Will get my goods in told by Tuesday (due to long weekend)

Is this normal for the afs site status not to update in time ?

Methinks the status online depends on the person entering it, and I bet they are short-staffed as people would have taken off this week and next to get the 2 x 4 day weeks.

Singapore usually takes a week from initial receipt of parcel to delivery. Obviously this will be longer if customs get involved.

I think Aliexpress also have a countdown timer. I haven't used them in a very long time, but they are also owned by Alibaba, so the system should be similar.

From experience ... How long to reach the ags office once it's left customs and the airport ?

Instead of waiting the weekend id rather go and pick it up

Got my parcel today :) ... Great 1st time experience from Aramex. Everyone from the reception staff to the security guard to the warehouse staff ... They all went out of their way honestly to make sure I got my item ...

sorry for such a basic question, but i have packages that shows delivered at the NY address, but no other updates from aramex. is this possibly due to the local long weekend?
or should i rather contact/query aramex directly?

Aramex JHB do not work weekends, or over Easter.
Shop and Ship New York do not work Sundays.
Easter is not a federal holiday in the USA, so NY will be hard at work tomorrow, but JHB will not.
