Aramex global shopper

Oh, and DHL are asking me to pay R2085.69 for an under-declared shipment.
I paid $189 ($159 + shipping of $30). I submitted this invoice for $189.
The SAD 500 submitted to customs had only the $159.
Surely the FULL VALUE OF INVOICE should have been submitted to SARS?
DHL got penalised and Moneeba Esau sends me a bill.
She emailed me this morning:
"Please find the attached which accompanied your shipment, your supplier declared the cables as $159 and the shipping cost is $30, Therefore the customs value on the SAD 500 reflects the $159.00."

This is the amount she expects me to pay:
Payment Due
Vat & Duty ZAR 128.55
Customs Penalty ZAR 1 507.14
Special Clearance Fee ZAR 450.00
Total Due ZAR 2 085.69

I'm sure you can rectify this and have the fine rescinded. The actual amount paid for the cables was $159 and DHL submitted $159 - so even if your invoice total is $189 , they should be able to see the breakdown of $159 for goods as declared and $30 for shipping.

I have sat at the customs office at the airport and successfully appealed one of these - but man do they treat you like **** there.

Guys and Gals - If you have duty, always check your SAD 500 declaration carefully. This is attached to the bottom of the page.

I have just been charged R684.53 for a parcel that cost R581. The total value on the SAD 500 is R3745.

This is the 2nd time this week I am fighting an incorrect SAD 500 declaration from Aramex - the other duty is for makeup (I imported a bluetooth speaker).

Had a similar experience when I imported my Google Home..

Its clearly marked on THEIR site as a Bluetooth Speaker (or something similar) and the SAD500 was coded to makeup... so clearly someone in their department is fscking incompetent and they make it our problem to fix.... pissed on my battery big time.

The penalty memorandum is addressed to DHL. They are just trying to pass it on.

It does kinda look like a makeup kit

Kidding :)

I paid 87 usd and it came to 325.16. Discount was 20usd at the time.

11-05 2 x Coral Google Home Mini from Google Store.
$63.15 incurred duty of R256.01

14-05 2 x Chalk Google Home Mini from Ebay.
$65.99 incurred duty of R292.

I would contact [email protected] and definitely bitch. They have levied duty on the $100.

Some feedback: AGS indicated that they sent the query back to the Clearance Team for review and after a week I've been informed that the initial Customs charges are correct.

So I'll be paying R547 Customs charge for a $63 set of google home minis.

A really poor first-time customer experience with AGS

Can't you escalate? No way it's correct. Unless tax is calculated on the non-discounted value.

So do they charge customs on the market/retail value of the item ? Or what I've paid for the item

These are my charges based on $63 invoice:

Clearance 50.00
Duties 181.35
Customs VAT 316.35
Total Customs: 547.70

Shipping charges 304.00
Grand Total: 851.70

My parcel arrived ... Box was slightly battered up. But items are perfect. Was really convinced the parcel was stolen ... Just relieved it ended well

I ordered 2 x Google Home Minis for $63 from Google USA.

Invoice I submitted shows the price as $100 with a $40 discount to $63 (with taxes).

AGS have said my Customs amount payable is R547.50 - can someone confirm if this is in the right ballpark?

If they stuffed up do I have any recourse?
$74.00 Google Home Mini Chalk x 2 = R960.00
Duty of R548. 11
Description: Makeup. WTF?
I complained. When I checked the My Requests on the Aramex Global Shopper webpage I see someone has closed the case without a word.
Bastards, I ain't taking this.

How do they get this so wrong ... Is it that the codes between electronics and makeup are a digit apart

The following links refer:
SCHEDULE 1 / PART 1
CUSTOMS DUTY

SCHEDULE 1 / PART 2
SPECIFIC EXCISE DUTIES ON LOCALLY MANUFACTURED OR ON IMPORTED GOODS OF THE SAME CLASS OR KIND

The codes between Speakers and Makeup are not close at all.

33.04 Beauty or make-up preparations and preparations for the care of the skin (excluding medicaments), including sunscreen or sun tan preparations; manicure or pedicure
preparations:
20% Duty (+ 7% Excise if commercially available) + 15% VAT

85.18 Microphones and stands therefor; loudspeakers, whether or not mounted in their enclosures; headphones and earphones, whether or not combined with a microphone, and
sets consisting of a microphone and one or more loudspeakers; audio-frequency electric amplifiers; electric sound amplifier sets:

No Duty, but might charge excise duty of 9% if they feel it is sold here commercially. Then 15% VAT

I also have another Google home mini one the way. That said so far it's says it classified as electronics next to it so hoping all will be fine.
