Yep Amazon via aramex landed yesterday in Dubai and left last night. Here already in Jozi today.
Should it take this long from Dubai to jhb ... My guess is its in Jhb but someone forgot to scan ... Although I'd like to think it's a bulk scan with multiple items in the bulk

So this time around seems to have been smooth sailing - bought some smart home devices (switches and lights). 06/06 Arrived at Aramex. 15/06 Departed Jhb facility.
However, two quick questions:
1 VAT seems to have been calculated on 1.15 of the value. Is this a luxury item?
2 The VAT invoice or receipt from SARS indicates R334, however I was charged R384. Is there some R50 ags customs admin charge I'm not aware of? See screens attached

You can tell quite a lot from the SAD 500. I can't tell you for sure what duty on smart switches is, but would think it is categorised as electrical item.
Yep. Tariff 8536.69 is Electrical plugs and connectors.
As to question 2, yes, Aramex charges R50.
This is considerably better than DHL, who charges R150.

thanks for the response. Struggled to find any line item stating this - seems to be hidden in the "customs" payment.
Either way, after my bad first experience importing google home minis (not as bad as some), this seems to have gone very smoothly. Maybe AGS have fixed something or maybe Shanghai is a better import origin than New York.

Not AGS related, but just ..
I bought from Hong Kong on Wednesday 20/06/2018 and paid $10 for shipping.
(Actually I fear they may have lost on the deal since I think sending to SA is more costly for them than sending to EU or US - but I am always willing to pay extra if need be to avoid the post office)
My item arrived in Cape Town Monday 25/06/2018 and was cleared from customs and delivered same day. DHL. Also, was not hit with any fees. You win some, you lose some.

It seems to be hit and miss with AGS so I'm a little nervous. I sent my first parcel with them yesterday. Air rifle parts from London to Cape Town to the value of R2613.03. I'm not too concerned with slow delivery, I'm more concerned that they screw up and use the wrong tariff codes and inflate the taxes and duties to be paid.
How would the final amount payable be calculated? I'm assuming:
Package weight: 0.3kg
Invoice total: R2613.03
15% VAT: R391.96
AGS Shipping: R199
AGS clearance fee: R50
Total to be paid: R640.96
Air rifle parts are tariff code "9305.99.10 - Parts of spring, air or gas guns and pistols" so no duties payable. Is the above calculation correct? If not what did I miss?

Anyone else having issues with the Aramexglobalshopper website? When I click on a shipment number I get an error saysing "Shipment not found".

So far so good it seems. My Parcel was received by Aramex in London last week Thursday and it arrived in Johannesburg today. Aramex phoned me 5 minutes ago to ask for an importers code or ID Number they can use for customs clearance. Hopefully the clearance process goes quickly.

Tried Bestbuy and a bunch of other websites in USA when I could not order Google home stuff directly from store.google.com due to payment issues (tried everyday with different credit cards, different accounts, etc for 8 days straight). After trying other local USA companies, most do not allow shipping to AramexGlobalShopper or any forwarding company and cancel the order within 20 mins.
List of companies I tried (and failed):
1) Bestbuy
2) Target
Company that did work and allow it:
1) Bedbathandbeyond
All the above was done in the last 2-3 weeks. Hope the information helps to get items that cannot be sourced many other places.

I ordered a laptop a few years back using my SA credit card - for delivery to a mate in the US. They completely messed up the order (messed up billing, actually had no stock despite the site saying they did, and then sent the package to the wrong store) and trying to sort it out was a nightmare. On phoning them, they simply hung up or redirected me to an automated phone system that had no options that were relevant. Honestly their customer service is far worse than the brick and mortar stores here that dabble in online sales.
First time using a US online store that is not Amazon or eBay. Parcel was collected from the NY post office on Saturday and already on its way to Joburg via Dubai.
