Do you need an importer license if you use flex?

You need an importers license if ordering more than three parcels a year.
Flex is people that order multiple parcels a week. If you only order a couple of parcels a year it won't be of any benefit to you as Flex costs R1500 a year to join.

I've tried AGS for the first time and I've gotten as far as AGS telling me my package has been shipped from the international warehouse. They tell me I now need to upload my invoice, however if I follow their instructions and click on package under profile I get "shipment not found" which means I cannot upload an invoice.

Is this normal? Is it just a case of I need to wait a few days for the system to catch up or does this sound like something is broken?

They may be a bit slow. If not corrected in a couple of hours, then email [email protected] with your shipment details and complain.

Ok so final question. For the invoice I upload. Do I just take a screenshot of my order confirmation sent by the shop I ordered from and upload that?

Sorry only saw this now ... Did this work for you? I use AGS India address often to get stuff and comes through, never tried with AliExpress

I never used it again since I got 12 parcels sitting at JHB Mail Center due I use the incorrect AGS shipping that Aramex advised me which Shangai AGS address and turns out it didn't work. People say on this forum is to use Hong Kong AGS instead.

I really wished I known about this sooner before I made the order but now they all currently sitting at JHB mail center and I really dont know how they gotta deliver it to me to my nearest post office since my shipping address is only AGS address

Depends on the supplier and where they are. Usually about a week.

Won an auction on eBay for soccer boots. Package arrived at UK office on 20/12 and was delivered in Durban on 27/12. Would have arrived in Durban on 24/12 but somehow missed the Jhb - Dbn flight that morning. Quite impressive...

Your friend can courier it to the New York address. From there it will be shipped through the Aramex Global Shopper system.

Once you are (hopefully) are a member, you go to the Aramex Global Shopper (AGS) webpage and copy and paste the New York address. This address you email to your friend, who can generate a New York shipping address on the USPS website, download it and print it out.

I don't make the rules, SARS does, and they say "3 parcels are the limit, or we will find you and you will incur a penalty."
I do not know of anyone who has actually incurred such a penalty, but if you feel it is worth the hassle of obtaining an importers code, rather than be safe than sorry.

Good for you (I don't think they want it to be hard).
Now, once you have joined they will give you a range of different addresses in different cities. One thing that will remain constant is your personal Account #, which will remain the same.
This is your personal ID number and must be on the parcel so they know where to send it after it reaches NY.
Be aware that the Origin (destination address) will open and check contents.
You will need an invoice for contents, even if it is a gift. Make up an invoice using Word, Excel or just get a template from the internet. This invoice you will upload when Aramex inform you that your parcel has reached New York.
Do not send liquids. aerosols or batteries as they will be confiscated. Be aware that makeup and clothes incur much duty.
Have fun!

I know you don't make the rules, I was simply asking about it because I have never been made aware of it until now.
Do you know how to go about getting an importers code?

It seems their website is broken at the moment. I can't make the customs payment. Tried using PayPal, Visa checkout and CC. I had no problems paying the shipment fees last week.

So irritated with them yet again!! Every time I promise myself that I wont use them again. Unfortunately I have another parcel on the way.

Luckily I reached someone in accounts now who has been very helpful. I am going to have to make a manual payment, which is not ideal. But this is the only way I will get my parcel...

Hmm. I just made a payment for the shipping last night of an item. Had issues with Existing CC, but paypal worked. Will see what happen when the customs payment has to be made.
