Slightly off topic, but the knowledge in this thread is great. Hoping someone can suggest a good solution.
I received an item today that I bought on Aliexpress. It is a hot air rework station that costs $109.99 and the only shipping option was DHL for $24.21 (pretty cheap). The seller then used TNT and it arrived to today. Value declared low and I paid no duties or tax (I didn't ask for that).
The problem is that I ordered a 220V version but received a 110V one. It will blow up if I used it here (transformer inside is not adjustable), so I contacted the seller. The seller wants me to return it, and wants to know how much it will cost before agreeing to help pay for shipping. Box is 18 x 30 x 23cm and weighs 2kg.
Has anyone ever sent a wrong item back to China?
Aliexpress gives me two options : Partial refund for wrong item, or Full refund if I return it at my cost.
That doesn't sound fair, PROVIDED you ordered the item correctly, i.e. 220V
I would declare a dispute with Aliexpress - I have done that a couple of times and always won
On the electrical side, you could probably get another transformer, depending on what outputs the transformer has to have, or, you could get a step-up transformer, but these options could be expensive if the power requirements are quite high
