Aramex global shopper

Will do there systems work great but communication / replying to email is on a Telkom level
Open your browser and open the shipment details. Go to the bottom of the page and click the link. This opens up an enquiry page. Use the tracking number as the subject so you can look back later and see to what the communication refers to.
When you submit the enquiry you will receive an email with a case reference number.
You can then use this reference number in all communications regarding that shipment.
Aramex have to contact you as it is an open case reference number.

These aren't usual times. Just pray you get it soon!

Package just delivered to my office, will give full update later but overall very good experience if you remain patient

I'm about to upload an invoice but I have noticed that the cost of goods is $5.00 although I told the seller not to include invoice and he said he didn't. So won't I get into trouble when I upload the invoice with the correct amount that is different to the cost of goods?

The amount you see is a guess. They only know the correct value once you upload the invoice.

Hi guys, I read somewhere here that if a seller won't ship to HK get them to send to NY. But won't that attract duties in NY and in SA?

You heard wrong.

Some states have no or low taxes (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sales_taxes_in_the_United_States). But this only applies to stuff ordered from the USA and delivered to the particular state in the USA. It doesn't matter if the delivery address is a forwarding company or not.

Items coming from overseas into SA have to have a manifest showing the value. SARS will apply duty/tax to that. They may require that you furnish an invoice and proof of payment for the items in the package. And these better all tie up or you will be fined R500 on the spot.

Items coming into the USA can also attract duty/tax. So you could end up paying for the item to enter the USA and to enter SA.

You will get taxed by the country you order from, if the Aramex Origin is in the same country.
If ordering from California, destination Aramex NY, you will be liable for NY/NYC tax.
Aramex insist that you send to the closest Origin as it is easier, and quicker, but if the seller won't send to a local address, use another country.

If ordering from HK via the USA your shipment is processed like any other parcel by the NY Origin. If you are lucky the Hong Kong seller treated it as in international parcel and didn't charge tax on it. You probably won't be charged tax in New York as the parcels origin was Hong Kong to SA, but this is not guaranteed.

Once you have paid taxes, (an example is eBay, which add the tax to their amount which you pay), your parcel can bounce around from country to country and you pay no further tax - until it reaches its end destination... South Africa.

You see examples of this when ordering from Europe - Germany / France etc orders go via the UK Origin to SA. From China everything goes via the Dubai hub. Come to think about it, because of the demise of SAA I think everything now goes via the Dubai hub.

However, you don't get taxed everywhere at every destination.

Happy to report that I have received two of my three packages with a minimum of fuss. They did however seem to charge me customs fees in USD. You live and you learn. But, based on my experience, I would definitely recommend Aramex Global Shopper.

If you ordered something from HK with an SA address and it happened to go via the USA then no taxes in USA. Just like HK to SA via Dubai. The address is not Dubai. Dubai is just the hub.

As far as the authorities are concerned the Aramex address in USA is the destination address. Aramex then resends the package from USA to SA.

Thanks for all the info, there is quite a lot to consider :sneaky:. Hopefully I can get sorted without too much drama ;).
