Hi.

Does anyone know how to dispute a customs charge. Customs charged me on the full price of the items and I didn't pay the full price as the items where on sale?

Unfortunately customs can do whatever they want.
You pay on their deemed value even if it was on a sale at a lower price.

Customs is charged on "value" of items, not what you were charged. Unfortunately they are fully within their rights to charge that, especially if the invoice stated the original price before the sale.

If you brought in via aramex argue with them, if it was just through the post you're out of luck I'm afraid.
 
It was through Aramex, I've emailed them, so hopefully. Any other suggestions???

Looked at their website and could not find any pricing. When they say "Delivery from US in 4-6 working days", does this include custom clearance? I personally find Aramex highly incapable of doing anything - for every parcel I have to jump through hoops, send them emails and only then something happens (i.e. it is now 5 days and they still have not acknowledged the upload of the invoice).

AGS does never respond to any tickets submitted and looking at the ticket history, those are just closed without a comment.

Volumetric Weight = (h * w * l) / 5000

If Volumetric Weight is larger than weight use the Volumetric Weight in the calculation.

Looks like postbox-courier does collation? So I guess you can collect enough parcels to make it worth it.

The collation sounds interesting - Amazon decided that despite my wishes to split up a 6 item order consisting mainly of small items into multiple parcels. Needless to say, I paid R195 shipping for $4.95 ink-refills. Since Aramex neither took a photo of the parcel (it was an envelope), captured the weight (or it was too light to even come in at 0.1) and also got the shipping number wrong I incorrectly assumed it was the whole parcel - uh well.

  1. The postbox-courier homepage does have a calculator on it to give you an estimate. In fact, that's just about the entire homepage.
  2. My last five orders: UK to Nelspruit 4 days, 4 days and 5 days, USA to Nelspruit 5 days and 7 days. All of this obviously includes customs
  3. Great personal service.

pfft, thats slow for them, my last parcel was 0 working days - high value so included clearing, left USA Friday, delivered to me Monday, faster than shipping a parcel from JHB to Durban with local courier.

Can you explain the process.

You order something and set a Pre-Alert then it arrives by them. Then what?

Via AGS or PostboxCourier? For AGS it is impossible, as they would take sometimes a week to verify an invoice and push it through customs. The fastest parcel I got was my Amazon-UK order of PS4Pro (2 days) and over December some network-kit in 4 days.

I had plenty of parcels leaving US on Thurs, landing in SA Friday and then being stuck in customs the whole weekend, being cleared on a Tuesday and then typically UPS will F-it-UP by saying that they will deliver on a Tuesday before 5pm, when they actually deliver only on a Thursday.

Then they ship it on the next flight, email you the invoice for shipping and clearing, you pay and they deliver to you.
They have a few flights a week from the usa, so its usually quite fast and they clear quickly.
