Aramex global shopper

Let's wait and see. I agree that there should be some sort of duties payable. Dont know how Customs handle toys. Each product category attracts it's own rules.

Shipment Charges 492.00
Additional Services 0.00
Duties 0.00
Total Amount 492.00
Tax 0.00
Total amount after tax 492.00 ZAR

They charged me R132.18 duty on an invoice of $38.99, worked out to R534. Parcel was received yesterday. HOWEVER, this was electronic goods. Yours is toys.

Customs do have their own rule. Depends on their mood I guess. A friend and I both imported the exact same product from the same place. Mine arrived a day later. I had to pay in R760 and he paid R123.

If it was direct and not through AGS there is not much you can do. Customs fined me R2500 (I kid you not) on an order worth R2800 sent from China using DHL. This was because the supplier declared the order at $30 and I, being totally honest, sent in the correct invoice.
So SARS Customs fined me for wrongdoing. Figure that. I also could not appeal.

Seems like NY address is on the ball.

Received my parcel 9am and 2pm was already in transit and charges already loaded.

Lets see how slow Customs is going to process this.

Invoice is already loaded.

Good news is, it is in CPT.

Bad news is, I am not at the address of delivery after 9:15am until 3pm. Sent aramex an email, got the auto response. Tried calling them 3 times and no one answering there phones.

Guess the delivery guys either going to waste his time or can pop the package over the wall.

Sigh, there support is still just plain lacking.

This is probably the fastest AGS has ever delivered a package for me, granted it didn't go through customs as the cost was below R400

If you see this about 9pm, it means your parcel will be delivered the next day and you need to make arrangements to have a day off/sick day:
Shipment Forwarded to Beyond/Remote Area Sorting Location

Is Aramex much better than MyUS? I bought a camera from Amazon and the camera is already in transit to MyUS. I only found this AGS thread after I had specified MyUS as my USA delivery address. I see it's a very active thread, implying more people are using AGS. That has me worried as I can only see a few old comments regarding MyUS on My broadband.

Yup,

Got a hold of them now and ask that try deliver after 3pm. They said will send info to CPT branch now that they call the driver.

Let's hope this happens.

Welcome. Aramex Global Shopper is far cheaper than MyUS - R195 for the first 500g and R99 for every 500g thereafter.
You get addresses in main international cities you can send your parcel to.
However delivery takes on average 2 - 3 weeks.

As said, AGS is cheaper but slow, Myus deliver very fast with dhl, so boils down to how quickly you want your item and if you can put up with AGS lousy service...I would say stick with myus with an item such as a camera, with low value items go with AGS...AGS also may have issues with camera batteries and whatnot, myus at worse case scenario will charge you $5 for a battery sticker and ship with DHL cargo

I have imported now several devices with built-in batteries and all parcels had a battery-sticker on it and no issue with imports. Those packages made it through AGS quicker than others. By the sounds of it, the "Upload invoice"-issue and the problems at the NY and UK depot will not go away in the foreseeable future.

My average shipping time is now 7 business-days:
- I plan my orders so that they arrive by Wed/Thurs at the overseas depot, then upload invoice and nag AGS SA until the shipment is en-route to SA (normally departing on a Friday from US)
- When things go well, parcel goes through customs by Wednesday and I usually get it by Friday

Things go wrong, when:
- You don't nag AGS about the invoice upload (I upload and then drop a ticket and emails)
- When the parcel does not go through customs within 1-2 days after landing
- And when the status says "Awaiting customer instruction" - make sure that your ID-number / importers-code is on file

customs is all electronic, no parcels go "through" customs, each couriers cage by default is customs, the reason for any customs clearance delay is usually when the actual courier, be it AGS or anyone else, don't submit the clearance documents properly/timeously.

A good courier these days pre clears every parcel while still on route. AGS could as well if they had more man power and stopped changing personal every second day. I have been at the Aramex airport cage when parcels arrive, its like WWIII at their tiny cage, I was not expecting the volume of bags of parcels that were offloaded.

Good to know you haven't had issues with batteries, others have had, just read through the thread.

So Igshaan (driver) was at my house 10am when told support wouldn't be home. But I asked if can deliver on Monday. Said yes no stress.

He asked if would be home later and he delivered my package round 4:15pm. Same guy always delivering my packages. He went out his way to get package to me. 10/10 to him .

First time that Aramex was such a breeze. Package was in NY on Monday. Friday I have the package. Strangely no customs, item inside is $110.

Anyone know of any Aramex voucher/discount codes that are currently active? Have a shipment that's gonna cost about R1.6k in total, so any little bit is gonna help.

The fnb one is still active as far as I know. You have to be on fnb though

They just hit my account for R187 duties on a gift. 1st and last time I use them.

There is no such thing as a gift. Customs will always levy an amount on an incoming item if the value is high enough.

On that note NY is incredibly incompetent and useless. I uploaded the invoice within 2 hours of them requesting it 4 days ago. I have created 2 tickets and still no response. They just keep on sending me "upload invoice" requests. Bloody incompetent idiots.

Exactly, other wise everyone would just mark items as gifts.
