Aramex global shopper

Quick question...do you pay customs on all orders (via the description on the invoice), or can one get lucky and customs totally ignore your package? I understand that they don't inspect all the packages, but maybe the description of goods on the invoice creates an automatic charge.

What is in the parcel determines the customs duty. If clothing or makeup the duty is high. Electronic items get duty of about 15%.
If your parcel is below R400 there is no duty levied. Anything above that amount and you get duty levied according to contents.
Very rarely indeed do you get a parcel over R400 through without customs noticing. If that happens, consider yourself very fortunate.

Parcel is held in customs -" awaiting customer instruction ".

Honestly... Have already resent ID and document despite having done it repeatedly before. Last time parcel was held at customs for days and days with no communication from aramex.

Don't stew..Phone Olivia at AGS. Find out what is happening from her.

FYI... If your parcel is in NY, it will be delayed by Friday's snowstorm and most probably tomorrows snowstorm backing up flights at JFK. If so, your parcel will say something stupid like NEED INVOICE or ON HOLD or IN ACCOUNT.

My shipment has arrived at Aramex Milan. Now, according to the official site, the package should be 4.9KG. But according to Aramex's created package, it is 7.47KG. Is there any way I can dispute it, i.e. broken scale or something? It's quite a few bucks extra...

Even if a parcel weights 4.8kg, the volumetric weight might be more.
Shipping companies use the highest of the two.
You can use the following calculation to get an estimate of the volumetric weight.
Width x Length x Height in centimetres / 5000 = Volumetric Weight in kilograms.

But from 4.9kg to 7.47kg does look a bit wrong.

I sent them the dimensions - all of it - beforehand, to get a quote, and it came back as 4.9KG @ R1 086. This part was important, as it would have decided whether I take it or not.

Thanks for the calculation nonetheless - comes out to 4.352. Makes sense anyway since it's metal, so very dense.

My experienxe with aramex. Brought 2 parcels in. Service is lacking but price is right.

Its similar to the post office where you have to drive the process then s**t gets done.

With post office theres no way to drive the process so you have to wait.

I called aramex everyday just to push things along.

Aramex don't use volumetric. They calculate by weight. That is why they have a weight calculater on their home page, so you can work out how much you are going to pay for the shipping charges.
If there is a weight dispute phone them and ask for parcel to be re-weighed in JHB.

Hmm, Aramex Global Shopper and Chrome are not playing nicely again. If you have problems seeing the progress of your parcel, try using another browser such as Firefox or Opera.

Also, phone them. Don't bother emailing them as you get this back:

I have imported now several devices with built-in batteries and all parcels had a battery-sticker on it and no issue with imports. Those packages made it through AGS quicker than others. By the sounds of it, the "Upload invoice"-issue and the problems at the NY and UK depot will not go away in the foreseeable future.

My average shipping time is now 7 business-days:
- I plan my orders so that they arrive by Wed/Thurs at the overseas depot, then upload invoice and nag AGS SA until the shipment is en-route to SA (normally departing on a Friday from US)
- When things go well, parcel goes through customs by Wednesday and I usually get it by Friday

Things go wrong, when:
- You don't nag AGS about the invoice upload (I upload and then drop a ticket and emails)
- When the parcel does not go through customs within 1-2 days after landing
- And when the status says "Awaiting customer instruction" - make sure that your ID-number / importers-code is on file
Can i just upload the ebay invoice? My oarcel was delivered to NY about an hour ago. Il upload invoice as soon as it appears and call aramex SA tomorrow.

I uploaded my invoice on Monday at 4PM. How long does it normally take to go from "Need Invoice" to "Invoice received"?

Indeed. I have to use Edge just for Aramex. Highly annoying.

Sometimes a couple of days. They received the invoice alright, but the system will spit out at least two more "need invoice" emails which you can ignore.

I would phone and ask what has happened. That sort of delay cant be blamed on the snowstorms backing up JFK airport.

had a slight issue with aramex phoning me to get my ID number for customs clearance,
then after a week they phoned and asked me again for my ID number to clear customs.
Then it took about 2 working days to get the package delivered.

Has anyone tried to import a camera through aramex?
or maybe anything fragile?

could there be any issue with shipping because of the battery?

Thanks. Phoned them this morning and my parcel has been at customs since the 9th. Said they couldn't proceed as there is no ID number in my profile. Ffs. Call me and ask me for it if your damn system doesn't allow me to save it.

Day 3 - Getting slightly irritated now.

No response from Olivia either since yesterday on the matter.

This is the third time I've used them, but this time I didn't get a notification email once it was booked in and received, or any other mails. Luckily I checked my profile on their site right after it was uploaded, just for interest's sake, otherwise I wouldn't have had any idea I could even upload the invoice yet.

What P!ssed me off is that they just debited my card for shipping. Never got the opportunity to pay using the promo code for the R75.00 off. They wont refund me R75.00 either.
