Lived666, just a quick question. When the package leaves MyUS to the courier, what happens with payment for import taxes? Do I pay the courier directly or can payment to them still be done via MyUS?
My gut tells me that part will be between me and the courier, right?

I just registered for AGS but I cant find the 17 Addresses they are talking about.
I want to order something from Amazon that does not ship to SA.
Registration done but I am lost on their site. Dont know where to find these addresses that I must enter to post the item to.
And one last thing. How does the customs issue work with them.
I am used to buying stuff from Amazon that ships to SA and everything is done and dusted on checkout.

The Home page has tabs. The orange arrow shows you the address tab. As long as you keep your import under R400 there is no duty. If over R400 expect duty of about 15% on electronics then add on VAT. The duty is much higher on toys and even higher on makeup. Never order batteries, perfume or any spray as Aramex Global Shopper will not ship.
Add all addresses to eBay and PayPal and they become verified addresses. Add the USA address to Amazon and you're set.

Okay, 9 days ago my package arrived at Aramex UK and I supplied them an invoice the same day. My package has now arrived in Johannesburg. So, I suppose another 2-3 days in customs and another 2-3 days for delivery if nothing comes up.
I can confirm that Aramex is a good service if you need to receive a package securely, provided you contact them at least once a day to ensure your package keeps moving. If you are looking for fast delivery, best is to pay a bit more and use UPS, Fedex or DHL.

This parcel took one week, from received in NY to it being delivered to me.
Take into account that there were no snowstorms backing up JFK, and the amount was only R300, but still, good going.
Shipment number has been changed, so don't bother looking it up.

Here is my second package:
US to South Africa - 7 days.
Customs - 5 days.
Package location tonight: Customs.
This far, my second package is 12 days and still waiting.
My very first package took 12 days from London to me.

First time using AGS, I phoned in, read abit here and checked the AGs website. Can anyone tell me if I'm good or do I need to phone in? I done the following :
1. Added the address incl my account number as explained.
2. Checked out with the AGS address and paid (Amazon).
3. Delivered today to the AGS address.
I read that you need to upload a commercial invoice but doesn't Amazon already have one attached to the parcel?

Aramex Global Shopper will ask you to upload the invoice. Even if Amazon attached an invoice to the parcel and stuck it in place with a neon sign saying "Invoice Here"... They will still ask you to upload invoice. Repeatedly.
It's not that they don't like you, it's just an automated process that triggers an email every time your parcel moves until it reaches Jo'burg. Of course, if you're deaf and blind or can't read and really have not uploaded the invoice by JHB, I'm sure you would get yet another email, but most of us would have by that time uploaded an invoice a long time ago.

Lol thanks, I understand. So I'll get an email from AGS and then reply with the attachment of the invoice?
If you don't mind I've got a few more questions:
Do I need to tell them I'm expecting a parcel or will they contact me themselves?
In your experience from the time the item is delivered to "your address" to the first contact from AGS how long did it take?
Edit: Also does the invoice really have to state "commercial invoice" or is the one I find under my orders - invoice on the Amazon website sufficient?

If you copied and gave Amazon the Aramex Global Shopper USA address exactly as it is found in the My Addresses tab on the AGS Home screen, then they will know who you are - as address line 2 gives your unique AGS ID number. They will then email you.
Delivery will take 2 weeks minimum. More, if the item you ordered is over R400 and attracts customs duty.

It can take less time than 2 weeks but rarely happens. The attraction is more that you can order things and act like you live in Springfield Gardens NY or Slough UK etc. This way we get items that are meant for the local market that side.

Yeah that's rubbish, I use postbox-courier and my item does not sit in customs for more than a few hours. I wont ever use aramex again, their service is terrible. Where as postbox-courier are always in contact and always give me feedback and dates.
Agreed. Aramex is a useless courier company. Not worth the once off member fee or their discounted courier rates. Today will be 14 days since Aramex received my package. It took a week to get from UK to South Africa and it has been in customs for 7 days now. All they tell me is that they are waiting for customs to complete and will follow up.
This is my last package with them.
By the way, on Monday I ordered the same backpack from the same provider in the US. They shipped to my MyUS address Monday afternoon. It arrived there on Tuesday. My backpack was delivered this afternoon by Fedex and I paid $17 more than what I did with Aramex for the same bag.

What I do find strange though is how Fedex, UPS and DHL manages to get each and every parcel, guaranteed through customs, within a matter of hours, no matter the backlog. I never had to wait a day for any parcel coming through any of these three services. Why can Aramex not do the same?
