Aramex global shopper

What I do find strange though is how Fedex, UPS and DHL manages to get each and every parcel, guaranteed through customs, within a matter of hours, no matter the backlog. I never had to wait a day for any parcel coming through any of these three services. Why can Aramex not do the same?

They pre-clear them at customs, doubt Aramex does the same.

There is Major back log at customs at the moment, I have many parcels still at JHB international mail center.

Couriers do not go through the same sorting centre as Intl. mail centre. They usually have offices at the airport with customs officials there. So there is no excuse for the delays with Aramex. When I ordered a 400$ item in December a week before Christmas, postbox-courier had it from New York to my hands within 4 days from order. Literally 4 days when i placed the order online. So Aramex can suck it.

LOL no such thing. If you have parcels stuck at JHB international mail it is because of SAPO inefficiency, nothing to do with customs and if you have delays in clearance with AGS it is due to Aramex inefficiency.

Phew. Seems I was very lucky then. I had a package delivered 2 weeks ago, it was in customs less than 1 day. A few days later and I might still have been waiting, by the sounds of it.

You are 100% correct. Aramex is at fault. 7 days in customs is not a joke at all. Not even mentioning the 7 day period for courier from US to SA. Might as well use the Post Office and pay a lot less.

Luckilly I paid via Paypal. Just submitted a claim against them. Let's see what happens.

Submit a claim for what, for being inefficient nah you can't do that.

No such thing as 7 days in customs - All parcels go direct to the couriers cage and then they submit electronic info to customs - so happens Aramex stuff this simple procedure up quite often, various reasons.

Anyhow you can't submit a paypal claim cause they slow :crylaugh:

Interesting. According to the MyUS webpage:

Duty/Tax Free Amount (De Minimis Value)
The de minimis value is a country-specific value below which no duty or tax is charged, and clearance procedures are minimal. If you are importing a shipment with a total declared value LESS than this amount, duty and tax do not apply (certain products may be subject to other types of fees or taxes). The de minimis value is usually different for duties than it is for taxes.

SOUTH AFRICAN IMPORT DUTIES & TAXEX <--(written like this on webpage)
Certain countries do not assess duties and taxes on shipments that fall below a designated "de minimis value".
South Africa does not have a de minimis value, so you are responsible to pay ZA duties and taxes on your imported items.

And yet...if you ship through Aramex Global Shopper you do not pay duty on anything with a value below R400.

Strangely, my item of 100 Euro didn't incur any customs charges either - only VAT on the shipping cost.

You were lucky. Or was part of that postage?

Something else people may not know - Customs will only charge you duty on the item cost. Say you spent $40 on the item and $38 shipping to NY, they will only charge duty on the $40 and not the $38 as the postage cost was incurred in another country and is not relevant to SARS.

No, claim already submitted and accepted. Paypal already asked for documents which I have provided. The funds are blocked now and they are awaiting feedback from Aramex.

My claim was not for slow delivery. My claim was for non delivery after 2 weeks, now going into the 3rd when making use of a private courier service. Also, the fact that they do not respond to any queries since my payment.

Edit: not saying I will win the claim, but at least they will need to respond to me now and start working on the shipment.

They clearly state; "Delivered to his country of residence within 3-6 business days". They do not state; "delivered to his home".

What will probably happen is that you will be refunded under their Money Back Guarantee.

Another great reason for joining Aramex Global Shopper Online: If at any time during the first year of having an active Aramex Global Shopper account, you believe that our service did not meet your expectations, you can ask for a refund - no questions asked!
At the time of refund, your Lifetime Membership to Aramex Global Shopper will be deactivated and you will no longer have access to the account number and addresses.

Good to hear that.

I will take them up on that offer and see what happens. I first either want to get my current package or my money back. After that I will complain and ask for my lifetime member fee to be refunded. I thought they were better than the Post Office, but they are the same. I am too busy to have to sit and submit requests every day to ensure my package keeps moving. Damn, I do not even have to do that with SAPO. That being said, after that they can do with my account whatever they want.

Once you get your money back I doubt you can re-apply, and you lose access to addresses in different countries. Sure, MyUS is faster, but they are not cheaper. Nor are Stackry or Postbox Courier. Sure, they are faster but not cheaper. The only advantage I can see, is that they collate parcels, but then again, the drawback in that is the final collated parcel weighs more and will incur a higher shipping cost.

What do you mean "part of that postage"? The VAT was only applied on the shipping cost on Aramex' side, not the item costs.

I was amazed that they did not charge duty on 100 Euros, which is 1371.95 South African Rand according today's rates. Either you were very fortunate, or part of the 100 Euros was postage to your EU address, which does not incur duty.

I was always under the impression that customs is billed on the total cost (item+shipping).

Okay, just sent off an email explaining why I need to have my money refunded and account closed. I do not care about re-joining as I will never make use of them again.

Agreed, MyUS is more expensive, but by only about $9-$15 if I work on their courier fees. I will now upgrade to their higher package where I can store my purchases for 30 days and combine them for shipping (I buy quite a lot from there).
