Luckily you have a 2nd option. Paying over 4 grand wouldn't have been pleasant, but the only cheaper option would be airmail or seamail - which is mostly untracked. You would also be at the mercy of the post office.

On a brighter note, it looks as if AGS are working today as my really, really tiny parcel (5cm across) is moving.
JOHANNESBURG, South Africa 03/21/2017 10:14 AM Departed Operations facility – In Transit
Johannesburg, South Africa 03/21/2017 10:06 AM Received at Operations Facility

The parcel consists of 2 x replacement speakers for my distorting JBL Flip 3 bluetooth speaker I ordered on eBay and shipped through NY.
This is always the risk when ordering something through NY. If there is a problem it is expensive to post back, and if the sale was a "USA ONLY" sale and they see the return shipping is from South Africa, the seller may not refund you at all.

I got the parcel attached to my account and sent my invoice in twice. After the second time I got an update saying my package will be delayed since my package didn't have my account number
Do I need to do anything since the package and invoice clearly has my account number (otherwise how else will they have updated me once they got the package??)
When I log on to check it just says "In Account" (before it showed waiting for invoice or something of the sort).

I know, irritating, right? They did that to me too.
I figure they sent the email to say that they had to work to match the parcel to the account holder.
In my case I knew from the get-go that the seller had missed out the numbers, only having CPT, and I emailed AGS to tell them that it was coming in without the full account details in the address and yes, it was for me in Cape Town...
I still got the red email - Shipment Update No AGS Account Number (on hold).
Grrrr...

Eish yes it is, guess I'll speak to Olivia first thing tomorrow since I know for sure Amazon will have put the full address and it matches the invoice. How much longer did it take to get moving from that point? I tried phoning the New York hub- since I had some free skype credit from long ago- but no dice.

I received the red email on the 8th March. I then received the email asking to pay on 9th March.
They know who you are or they would never have sent you the email. Also, your parcel now says "In Account"

Aramex phoned me on Friday to ask me why I've only used my account twice. I pointed the person phoning to this thread. Hopefully they take the time to read it.

People think that if they order through Aramex Global Shopper they will get their parcels almost overnight, or certainly in a week.
This is not the case. This is a 3 week service. If you get your parcel faster, well and fine, but don't count on it.
If you want faster, then sure - go try MyUs or PostBoxCourier. They are far faster, and you pay the higher price for that speed.
This is a service for patient people. People that like the lower price and are prepared to wait.

They phoned me on Friday and asked me why I was not using their service.I told them from the total lack of support in SA, due to the massive delays in customs. They made some feeble excuse about customs backlog and I just said I got a package in record time of 4 days from new york to my door step through customs, etc. They just hung up... :crylaugh:

Just discovered this thread and at first I thought this would be a service I would use often, but it seems as though many of you guys are having issues? Would you recommend I use this or just stay away?

This is a great service. Best thing is to try it for yourself. You don't like it, try other companies.

I use Aramex Global Shopper all the time, and am quite happy with their service.

Items under R400 attracts no duty.
Service is slow, accept this.
Any problems, phone them.

This is a list of parcels ordered from Dec - March 2017. :D

Like Dee, I am also happy with this service. I think there are a select few individuals that just expect too much from a very affordable decent service.

I rarely need to contact them, haven't had a single issue with any of my parcels. They all arrive between 2-3 weeks. Far superior to the post office, and much more affordable than all other couriers. Literally just the inbetween service between price and speed that I need.

I get get my items usually within 4 days for almost next to the same price using postbox-courier, think it starts at 35$ and obviously climbs based on weight and dimensions. 2-3 weeks is unacceptable.

You got an importers code? Is it necessary to have one or they not really strict on it?
