If you're willing to wait up to 3 weeks and deal with incompetent fools at Aramex so be it.

That is just it - I have NEVER spoken or emailed anybody at AGS who hasn't helped me. They have been courteous and polite, and I reciprocate in kind. After all, they get salaries , they don't own the company.

I have never found anyone incompetent, nor a fool. The delays can be streamlined (and they are getting better) but those improvements are within the system itself and seem to be getting addressed.

I agree with most that the customs delays are too long, this needs to be looked at - it cannot just be a delay SARS side. AGS need to push harder and get things released sooner.

Besides this, I am happy by the way I have been treated. This is my latest parcel. It has taken 4 days (including a weekend and one holiday) to get to me. Delivery should be tomorrow.

Hong Kong, Hong Kong 03/18/2017 15:03 PM Shipment on Hold
Johannesburg, South Africa 03/22/2017 20:11 PM Shipment Forwarded to Beyond/Remote Area Sorting Location

Edit: Was delivered 9.30am 23 March. A 5 day delivery.

People think that if they order through Aramex Global Shopper they will get their parcels almost overnight, or certainly in a week.
This is not the case. This is a 3 week service. If you get your parcel faster, well and fine, but don't count on it.
If you want faster, then sure - go try MyUs or PostBoxCourier. They are far faster, and you pay the higher price for that speed.
This is a service for patient people. People that like the lower price and are prepared to wait.

Interesting that you immediately jump to the conclusion that I have a problem with the waiting periods when it's not something I even mentioned. For the record, that's not an issue for me at all.

What you do is ship your orders to the nearest address. In other words, USA orders go to the USA address, UK orders to the UK address etc. When the parcel arrives the people there will look at the address, see your account number and send your parcel on to Johannesburg. JHB will then email you.

I have some helpful info in this earlier post:

Thanks for the info! I haven't received any confirmation email as yet, but my credit card was charged the fee. My account also does not show any other tabs besides "my profile"... How long does the activation process normally take?

I honestly can't remember. Not long methinks. You can always phone them on 0114573000.

Is there no branch in Australia?

Frustrating i know, especially if you want something from eBay Australia.
Unfortunately the answer is no. The depots are in hubs only (Frankfurt, Hong Kong, New York etc). Like us, Australia is an end destination so no hub there.

Thanks will rather ask a friend to have the items shipped to her and then she will ship here. On a side note, which form is to be completed for an importers code, DA185 4A1?

So my first parcel with Aramex:

Order date 15 March
Processed in US on 17th
Customs in SA as of this morning with a request for my I.D already via email (to which I phoned the contact number provided in the email directly).

So I think it'll be delivered by 28th latest I hope. Meaning around 2 weeks for a 4kg+ item.

The below was originally Posted by MagicDude4Eva

FWIW - my SARS importers code experience so far:
- They need confirmation of ownership of a phone-line. Either a Telkom- or cellphone statement. If you are on pre-paid you need to provide an affidavit.
- They do not accept a bank statement unless it has been stamped in a bank branch
- They did not accept my Eskom statement as proof of address "because it did not look original" (it's a printed PDF in color)
- I also needed to provide them with a "letter of consent" that I am really the one applying for the code (which is obvious since I also supplied the DA185 forms)

It is now attempt number 3 at it....

4th attempt worked like a charm. All of the above applied. SARS was super sticky about getting original bank-statements with a stamp. They would not accept statements via internet banking or printed in the branch and we had to print statements via Autobank (SBSA) and then have them stamped by the bank. They also required a written letter from the bank confirming that those statements really belong to me.

Since I only have electronic statements (proof of address), I printed both an Eskom statement and a CoJ statement on a color laser printer on thicker paper (looks more "official") and then got it "notarised" by HR with a nice colorful commissioner of oath stamp.

Got the confirmation from SARS this morning (a proper letter from SARS with the importers code) and have forwarded this to Aramex who have loaded it onto my profile. Caveat is: I have nothing to order right now :-(
I literally had to write my own letter (on my own letterhead) to confirm that I am really applying and also to confirm my details (F**** knows why, as all of this in the application) - like this:

To Whom It May Concern:

Affidavit: Consent of application for importers code in private capacity and Confirmation of mobile number

Dear South African Revenue Service,

As requested I would like to confirm that I, XXXXX (ID Number XXXX), am applying for an importers code to be used in my private capacity for private consumption as per submitted DA185-4A1 and DA 185.

I furthermore would like to confirm that my only means of telephonic contact is via my mobile pre-paid number, +27 83 XXXXX which is serviced via the carrier CellC. Pre-paid numbers do not have invoices or statements and the ownership of my number can be confirmed via a RICA subscriber request to CellC directly via SARS. Alternatively you can verify my SARS income-tax record for income tax number XXXX, which also has the same mobile number on record.

Should you require any further information do not hesitate to contact me directly on +27 83 XXXXX.

Warm regards,
