Aramex global shopper

Yay just received my parcel. All in all it took AGS 3 weeks (30/11 - 20/12) to deliver from Amazon US. Add to that a couple of days for delivery from Amazon to AGS = about a month from cart in Amazon US to hand in ZA.

Total savings compared to buying the product in ZA = 50% cheaper

Anyone use aramex for bestbuy.com? Order keeps getting cancelled. Tried their Houston billing address (as recommended for international orders) no difference.

So in total I pay the shipping charge (based on weight/size) + R50 + R300 + customs and duties?

Why the R300? That's the Aramex clearing fee.
Aramex and Aramex Global Shopper are different companies under the same umbrella and have different rules.
AGS charge R50 clearance fees. Then there is duty (charged depending on what you ordered) plus VAT.
On the other hand, VAT is always an unexpected bitch. Keeping a R300 extra aside for that is not such a bad idea. :)

Yay! Another meaningless update. Has been mentioned before, this ambiguous "In Transit" status:

Johannesburg, South Africa 12/20/2016 09:18 AM Shipment Update - shipment receuived in vc cage
JOHANNESBURG, South Africa 12/19/2016 13:10 PM Departed Operations facility – In Transit
Johannesburg, South Africa 12/13/2016 11:18 AM Customs Clearance - In Progress

Well, atleast it's been "receuived".

Also noticed a few invoices added as attachments, looks like I'll just be paying the 15.4% VAT for this order. Hopefully no other surprises besides the R50 clearance fee mentioned by others.

R50 + 14% VAT + duties if there are any. If declared value is under R500 then you don't pay anything extra even if the item usually has very duties normally. Its sometimes better to bring thins in one a a time when you want a few and they are about R500 (or look like they're R500).

Its not a hard and fast rule though. I have several shipments below R400 getting taxed. It appears to be a luck of the draw

Not meaningless, customs is at the airport, the dispatch yard is not, so it was in transit between the 2. "VC" cage is the high value shipment cage it's stored in before it gets sent out.

So I ordered something in Hong Kong. I put my name as my aramex number and the adress as aramex offices in Hong Kong. So all I need to do is wait for aramex to contact me? How long does it usually take?

If you don't put in your AGS account number they usually send the parcel back to the seller and refuse to accept it.
They work with account numbers not names.
You should contact the seller to put the correct details on the package before it's shipped out, if already shipped out you should contact Aramex to find out where your parcel is and allocate it against your account.

You should receive your parcel about the 2nd week in January with all the holidays mentioned above or a little earlier maybe.

I put my ags account number as my name. Is that correct?

No, since customs will need to know who the parcel belongs too when it enters the country.
You put the AGS account number as the 2nd line of the address.
At least AGS will be able to allocate it to your account.
They might contact you to ask the shipping address and will put a new label on the parcel or you will need to contact them if you see an update in your AGS account about the shipment's details that are missing.

Ok thanks for the Info

Hmm, this may mean that they are yet to update your profile with the amount owed, hence it being outstanding.
I think we are all going to have to be tolerant and patient at this time of the year. They are guaranteed to be flat-out busy, and can only give updates when they have the item (and AGS don't work on weekends).
Despite all delays etc, it is still better than the post office. ;-)

Yes, amount to be paid needs to be updated. Documents from Aramex/Berco and the clearance form with the fees were uploaded on the 20th, indicating it cleared customs on the 18th. So it looks like its been released

And then we see this:
12/23/2016 15:30 PM Shipment Update - shipment in vc cage awaiting for customs charges to be uploaded and be released
12/23/2016 08:53 AM Shipment Update - shipment in vc cage awaiting for payment

So it looks like the status updates are added only when I make a support request...

After Christmas and bored, or super-efficient? Your guess is as good as mine..

I tried AGS and compared to MyUS it is the most horrible company I have ever come across (full details):
- Uploaded invoices are not processed for days
- Most parcels receipted will not have a photo taken (this is problematic if you expect multiple parcels and then need to figure out which invoice to upload)
- Payments are not allocated for more than 24 hours
- Support tickets remain unanswered
- Their helpdesk could not be bothered to follow up

It is a true pity since all the issues seem to be related to people-/process issue - in essence they can not get the basics of drop-shipping right. Judging from other comments, my issues are not due to the festive season/holidays as the invoice-upload and payment issue has been going on for at least a year.

Well yes, it is a case of "you get what you pay for".
You pay about $51 to get a 1.8 lb parcel from the USA to SA.
We pay R295. That's ZAR, not USD.
Sure, the customer service is crappy and it takes 2 weeks minimum to reach us and we complain on this forum... But it's safer than the post office and way, way cheaper than any other shipper.
