Have you ever even read the Unacceptable Items list? Top tab, under help. It's called unacceptable materials.

When I think gun accessories I think accessories that are attached to the firearm ie most of the products on brownells not some kydex or leather that forms no part of the weapon other than a place to store it.

May I ask why people use AGS instead of just sending it direct? You still have to pay duties when you send it with AGS. So you end off paying courier to local AGS location then aramex to ZA so it works out more than just sending it direct.

Most of us use it because:
- Shop doesn't send to SA
- Shop only wants to send with 300EUR Fedex or DHL
- Cheaper because of actual weight, and not volumetric weight when calculating cost
- Avoid normal 3-4 month airmail

ps: Duty is a very specific additional cost. Usually only VAT and clearance is paid.

Does anyone think its a good idea to use AGS to get documents sent back to SA? I have some documents from UK's Home Office that need to be sent back but want to avoid the terrible postal system here

This year my airmail packages from China is taking 3-4 months to arrive at my post office in Cape Town. One exemption to this is printing/transfer paper from China. Takes 1 month. So it seems as if "documents" do get treated differently... Skipping the customs queue?

Could be but parcels turn around time has really tanked lately. It's and 2 and half months to 3 months.

My parcel from China took 1 month after it left China to be acknowledged it landed in ZA. It still has not passed customs and probably going to take 1 more month to pass customs. Then after that 2 weeks to get to the hub and post office IF the parcel is not lost.

If sars want to inspect the item or want a invoice expect another 1 month delay.

We have been over this before...

You are looking at 9% Ad Valorem Excise Duty. Then there is 15% VAT on the entire amount (cost + duty). After that bombshell, Aramex politely add on their R50 clearance fee.

Also if it's the US version don't do it unless you are happy with 2G or maybe 3G network only. The US versions almost never supports SA networks LTE. Check the phone model number first then google frequencies.

Anyways very interesting log you posted there of a document that arrived in less than 1 month. Nice.

So who do we actually blame for the delay in parcels then? SAPO or SARS Customs handling incomming international parcels?

The info will change when the item is scanned. If your parcel is sitting at customs in a bonded warehouse no one can scan it, so the info will not change.
Hang in there - when you see a change, you know it's moving.
However, the info "Departed Operations facility – In Transit" won't mean it's on its way to you - it will mean it is heading out from customs back to Aramex.

Had a package arrive yesterday at NY. I guess it will take a while before it gets loaded to site considering SA pubday.

But for a change, the ebay seller sent me an invoice by themselves, which is pretty awesome, will just use that to upload to AGS.
