That is an automated email from the UK origin.
Each an every time you get any shipment sent through Slough you get the link that asks for name surname and ID number. I get it so often my Chrome browser auto-fills it.

I didn't know about that. I didn't think they forwarded items from the German warehouse to UK. A bit miffed that one of my official imports will be wasted on a 4.5 eur item.

When buying from eBay, would you recommend putting your freight code in the name field? I've been putting in the second address line, that worked fine but lately guys can't seem to understand that it needs to be on the waybill. Had two orders where I got the "Your item was received at our facility without your Aramex Global Shopper (AGS) account number due to which it cannot be delivered on the expected date. "

They include a picture when that happens and I can see that the freight code wasn't included.

I have my account number first, before my name, for UK shipments.
It is after my name for American shipments as I figured it might seem like an apartment number.
Both methods seem to work.
 
China - put the entire thing into Chinese, including your name.

Thanks for the advice, I ended up editing all my address like you recommended.

How does combined shipping work? I'm a Flex member, and I've had multiple packages arrive at the same time to the origin facility, but was not given combined shipping discount. Today I have three packages there waiting, I get the email to go pay, and to my surprise, the shipping cost is literally nothing. One is R5 for a 0.05lb item, another another is R55 for half a kg, another 0.77lb for R70. I've never seen prices so low.

How the hell do I get them to do this everytime? If they had combined all the items I bought in the last two weeks I would have saved so much. Damn.

Lol, you don't. Combined shipping discount is totally hit and miss.
You have to have parcels at an origin address at the exact same time.
I have rarely managed to get combination shipping from the UK, never from the USA.
Shanghai is easy as they seem quieter.

Damn, I'd use them to much if they had a button that was like "wait to combine" or something. They combined mine from the New York adress so I must be a unicorn. :p
 
Hi All.
Quick question about shipping laptops, assuming I purchased a brand new laptop overseas and had it delivered to the AGS Shanghai address, would they happily forward it on to me here in SA?

I've checked the "unacceptable items list", the only thing I found about laptops was for second-hand used ones.

Confirmation on the above would be greatly appreciated.

Mine was the same problem. It stayed like this for 8 days before any movement. I called and asked they said the daily update like that is just so that we know the parcel is there. So it doesn't mean they started the customs process just that it's in their possession

That doesn't make it much better. Looks like they use a LIFO queue instead of FIFO queue (had another package get to customs after this one, and already delivered).
 
I hope someone here is generous enough to help me out. I have ordered stuff from Aliexpress and using Global Shopper to courier to me. I have ordered a few items and only read this thread afterwards and it seems that i would need an importer code.

Is anyone willing to share their importer code with me?

You dont need an importers code for a few packages,
I buy a few things and I only sent my SA ID number(once off) to AGS to load on their system for customs clearance.
If you want more than a few then you'll need your own code.

I heard complaints about the new rules that took effect 1 April.
Any item less than R500 will incur a 20% duty and a R50 clearance fee

Can anyone confirm if this is true?

Huh? Untrue.

Literally had a item delivered yesterday that was $17 from eBay, didn't require ID, just went through nice and smoothly.
 
Slightly off topic, but the knowledge in this thread is great. Hoping someone can suggest a good solution.

I received an item today that I bought on Aliexpress. It is a hot air rework station that costs $109.99 and the only shipping option was DHL for $24.21 (pretty cheap). The seller then used TNT and it arrived to today. Value declared low and I paid no duties or tax (I didn't ask for that).

The problem is that I ordered a 220V version but received a 110V one. It will blow up if I used it here (transformer inside is not adjustable), so I contacted the seller. The seller wants me to return it, and wants to know how much it will cost before agreeing to help pay for shipping. Box is 18 x 30 x 23cm and weighs 2kg.

Has anyone ever sent a wrong item back to China?

Aliexpress gives me two options : Partial refund for wrong item, or Full refund if I return it at my cost.
