Are Axxess on crack?

So for the past few days, my ADSL line has been running really slowly, like maxing out at 6KB/s, with both browsing and downloading. Not good for a 512k line.

Now I have 2 accounts with Axxess - 1 X 5GB shaped and 1 X 1GB unshaped. So I tested the line speed with both and it was only on the shaped account that the line speed was k a k.

So I gave Axxess a shout and they 'informed' me that any person who has about a gig left on their account gets throttled to about 64k to ensure that they don't overshoot their cap before their session ends.

WHAT?????? BITE ME!!!!!

So its just like the old days where the broadband experience is at times a throttled one - except with Axxess you REALLY don't get what you paid for. 5 gigs is not really 5 gigs. Its 4 fast and one slow.

And what was their solution - if I don't like the throttled speed I can just buy another gig!

ARE YOU ON CRACK!!!!!

Thus, I must ask the inevitable question - Are all the employees of Axxess high as a kite, smoking a fattie while shooting up a speed ball?
 
That's pathetic. Can't they just enforce timeouts like the other ISP's? Which still sucks, but it's better than being throttled.
 
I would, but I just don't feel like going through the process of changing my email address. Again.

Get a hotmail or gmail account and stick with it... ;)

Gmail make the change over almost enjoyable, there mail box is approaching 3 gigs, they offer pop3 access and its all free. And it would be the last time youd ever have to do it and youd be free to change your ISP anytime you feel like it.
 
Haven't had a isp based mailbox since dial up mweb days... Gmail does everything you want and more..

If you want local pop3 get an ananzi account they charge R200 for two years...
 
Well, I just got off the line with Axxess again and I'm pleased to report that they've sorted it out.

Apparently, this was all just a temporary solution and they will have a new solution in place in a few days. But for the time being they've "unthrottled" my account. So Kudos to them.

See, a little bit of bitching CAN get you a long way.

The question is have they unthrottled only your account to stop your bitching or are all 5 GIG accounts full 5 GIG accounts.

It's only in this wonderful country that a supplier will get away with such bullsh!t and still exist in business the next day.
 
I just phoned them. All accounts have had the throttled service removed.
 
Whoever you talked to are lying! I am on an Axxess account and we are still being throttled.

I have cancelled my service with Axxess as any company that treats clients that way should go out of business. I can also not get them to confirm if they received the cancellation fax, go figure.

I have opened an account at Web Africa and must say so far I am very impressed, prompt service and an unbelievable nice user user interface. Will be moving over to them as soon as the cap is reached.
 
Moved to Imaginet's 3g freestyle+. Keeping my axxess account because of the email address. Too much of a schlep to change it, and so many damn people use your email address as the usercode. Darned conspiracy, if you ask me !!! Downgraded axxess account to the absolute cheapest R99 per month.

Another problem with axxess is that they do things without warning their customers.

Certainly would not recommend them for gaming. If all you need is email maybe. But then then why pay for an expensive ADSL line for email.

Makes you wonder what Axxess is actually offering.

Do they still reset IP's every 8 hours ?

They should have an option to keep your mail-box while cancelling your a/c. Even TELKOM offers this option ;) . Canclled my TELKOM ADSL account a while ago but was able to hold onto my mailbox for R12 p/m. Most ISP's offer such an option, even if not advertised. Call them and check.
 
I registered my own domain which anyone can host. I pay R90/month for domain hosting, 10 seperate email addresses and an ftp account. I don't know if that is a good deal but I know that at any stage I can get someone else to host my domain. I hope I'm not barking up the wrong tree here.

DigitalDomainz in Cape Town have a R600 per year option with unlimited email addresses.
