Busy looking into getting it. Need to have a rant.
Firstly they have stopped manufacturing SD PVR decoders, so you can only buy HD decoders for 4000 bucks (RIP OFF). I dont want one thank you.;
So now to hunt for an unwanted SD PVR, this should be fun.

Secondly, their packages are absolutly rediculously rubbish unless you want the premium package which seems like the only decent package to buy. Every other package has been sneakily designed to not give you the channals you really want to watch. So thus making you default to the premium, pay about 500 bucks a month and watch only a handfull of channals. This is pathetic.

Why not give the option to select which channals you want to watch or would like to have available, then charge for those channals?

Pathetic...

It's called monopoly - you should play the game sometime. Very enlightening...

doesnt mean they are not scaley cheating robbing bastards....

uh, no that's exactly what a monopoly is.

they don't want you to pay for the channels you want because then they won't make that much money....

My favourite is the limitations of the PVR. That thing gets full in no time but not to worry, there's an ethernet port on it so you can copy your stuff to an external dri...oh, no wait. It's blocked.

thats not a limitation it's a "feature" for them....somehow?

How many other packages are there?

Premium?
Select?
Compact?

:D

Tired of all those pesky peripherals? Now you'll never need them again because with our Block-A-Port™ technology, they're all useless!

Furniture shops used to have this R699 specials on DSTV (Dish. decoder, installation, and all). Do we still find them?
What decoder is/was it?

I vote for the former.

I vote for the latter... or what gives you so much room to call them names. why stick with scaly bastards when you could go on and call them rip-Off Artists, Legal Con-Men, Dirty Rotten Thieves. All with nice capital letters.

Wasn't there mention of DSTV getting some competition? Sure there was a mybb news article about it...

there were many companies to compete with dstv.

telkom tv - failed
etv - gave up
odm - silent, limping along

From their FAQ

ODM plans to launch its service to subscribers in the second quarter of 2009 due to the delay in all Pay TV operators being issued with a licence.

cool.. but we're already in the second quarter without a single sign they exist.

Can subscribers expect the same channels as on DSTV?
No, but ODM will be offering subscribers similar genres of programmes.

Hmm... wonder what those channels could be?

subscribers will be offered the flexibility to tailor-make their Pay TV offering so that it is uniquely relevant to each viewer at a price that suits each individual’s pockets.

Excellent.

So maybe wait Surv0 and see what they offer. But then again playing the waiting game in SA never works..
