WTF?? Why is myBB giving these government agencies ideas. Steam is invaluable to some of us. Please do not give them ideas, this is counter-revolutionary!!! They will wanna tax steam downloads soon. :mad::mad:
 
The practice which you describe appears to be unlawful and under similar circumstances, shipments have been detained on our behalf by the SA Revenue Services (Customs).

They dont even take into account the internet.. its a different market these days.. we should catch up some time.
 
Wow, this is a really bad article, the role of any reporter is to delve below the surface on questioning. The fact that they didn't bring up the issue of it being impossible for customs to confiscate digital media is just plain stupid.

Very bad, shocking actually. It is fairly obvious the person being interviewed does not know what is going on yet no attempt is made to help the person along. It seems fairly obvious the person being questioned is talking about physical objects. You should go back and explain that you are talking about online digital content distribution and ensure the person understands what steam, xbox etc offer. Also make sure they know we are downloading everything as in logging onto our computers, purchasing said goods and downloading them.

I think someone mentioned this in the comments on mygaming.co.za already but most, if not all, of the games on Steam are already available in South Africa and rated - making this piece of sensationalist journalism completely redundant.

Thanks to the editors for instigating all this pointless conversation though.

FPB: The distributors are held liable for unlawful distribution in the strict sense but South Africans who purchase games in this way are liable to have it seized by Customs upon importation into the country.

MyG: Does the FPB have any recourse in this matter, and would you pursue it?

FPB: Our most effective recourse against the practice you describe is to have it seized by Customs. Customs annually seizes tens of thousands of products on our behalf and our relationship with Customs will soon be further cemented through a Memorandum of Understanding.

Clearly they don't understand the difference between digitally delivery and physical delivery of applications and/or games. I would like to see them try to ****ing seize my digitally purchased games! morons (especially the person asking the questions for not picking up that they clearly do not understand why they're being asked these questions)

IMO it's not the reporter's duty to educate a person in charge of these things. They should already be aware of the different forms of possible distribution and actively rating it where appropriate. But they need a new BMW, why pay for a 3 day course in education when they can go "vroooom" with their "compatriots" on the M1 without consequence...
 
I agree but then speak to someone who is educated and don't keep asking questions when the person is clearly on another page.

Surely you cannot have an accurate interview with someone who is confused and then you don't point out the confusion and keep asking questions when it's clear the person has no clue. The person being interviewed is trying to explain what he thinks is being asked. Surely that cannot be how it's done?

At what point do you stop and make sure both parties are on the same page? obviously there is no point you just keep asking to make the person look like a total fool because you have not addressed the confusion. If the point was to make them look foolish then congratulations, job very very well done :D
