Are the standards really that low?

Nicely written, maybe it can be put into a full page add in one of national papers, read out on radio, and TV ads?

Let the people be informed, and hopefully the Gov as well. How on earth do these people get away with their incompetent performance, and then get to dismiss being poorly judged by others? This is I suppose the State of the Nation, imo. Absolutely no consequence to their stuff ups, as long as you have an excuse, you're okay in the eyse of the Gov...

The reason the government doesn't care to be blunt is that they don't see issues such as broadband access affecting most of their voters, even though a strong case could be made that it does, especially in the area of cheaper telecoms generally. Either that or they're just incompetent, probably more likely to be that I suppose.

Let's not be naive about the issue.

Nobody in their right mind will ever agree that they are in the wrong. All politicians seem to be going through the same crash course in denial. Just look at the former commander of the Iraqi army who claimed that they were in full control of the situation a few minutes before the US forces reached the capital...

Somebody must be intercepting Paris' email as I let him know each time he redefines incompetence - which as everyone else seems to know is fairly regularly.

they dont have a clue...

who are they protecting? Open the market!!

bunch of ****ers!!!

I think one of the HUGE issues and stumbling blocks for us here is the fact that we don't really have any recourse when the Gov/Telkom mess up. When Telkom blunderes (as they do) we can only go to ICASA, they get it horably wrong, then our next step would be the Gov, but they too get it wrong, and the buck stops there. Now what are we left with, a whole lot of people unable/incapable of doing their jobs, but they are not held responsible for it. The whatchdogs in place are more like lapdogs to keen to lick the you-know-what of the hand that feeds it. In the end they are all happy seeing that THEY have decided that they are in the right and the rest of the country is in the wrong.

Satisfy the people who moan a bit too much by setting up a committee/hearing, and then flatly ignore the findings of the committee/hearing to suit the current bungles made by the lapdogs. Ah the joys of incompetance, an ostrich comes to mind....

nice article cara

bit of a joke really - ICASA gets an A when they publish dsl regulations that in the definitions section refers to "Telkom (Pty) Ltd"- no such entity guys (try Telkom SA Ltd)...only question for the tired and cynical consumer is whether this is incompetence or an intentional get out of jail free card

A is for abysmal, appalling, anti-competitive, arbitrary, atrocious and applicable to the DoC and 'CASA

"In a recent Mail & Guardian survey the Director General of Communications, Lyndall Shope-Mafole, was given an E, meaning: “Do yourself and the country a favour – resign”. Shope-Mafole’s response to her E was that she not only disputes this grade but thinks that the DoC is in fact ‘performing well’, and gives herself a C-grade.

A similar scenario is playing itself out with ICASA . ICASA has come under fire recently with massive staff losses, a criminal investigation against its CEO, its chairman accused of sleeping on the job and many people feeling that ICASA suffers from a general lack of performance.

The Regulator however seems oblivious to the dent these accusations have caused their reputation and has chosen to give itself an A for its excellent performance. "

C as in for crap , cowardly, conceited... and a whole bunch of other... more nasty words.
Dominic has the A covered.

a bunch of corrupt incompetent fools are in control,of most of the land and does any body wonder why SA is in such a mess a general?

anything and just about everything to enrich temselves.

on a brighter note, my adsl is going to be installed on the 13th.ya right ican't wait......

The reason this will never change, along with hundereds of other issues, is that there is no accountability in our government. They are assured that they will get majority votes despite how they perform in critical areas such as these.

Its no wonder that our government offcials believe that they are our rulers rather than our servants.

Why bother with accountability where the party that governs these bodies is supported by a mass who are uninformed? It actually surprises me that they give comment to the media speculation/comment? Perhaps it's just to appease the international community?

Just imagine if they implemented salary increases based on performance! :D And so much for performance based monitoring of these bodies.

If they rate their performance so highly when in fact it is doing so extremely poor they will never be held accountable. Need some kind of independant or consumer body to rate their performance and not let them determine their own performance levels. They're obviously biased.

Methinks they ingested too much of an unhealthy substance which put them out of touch with reality...
