Are they allowed to do this?

BLAH BLAH BLAH :D its freaking plug cut the thing off put new plug on it and be done. The time you spent writing this complaint you coud've been using the thing.:D

I think I'll disagree on this one.

It should be expected that the item you buy will be able to fulfill its function without having to purchase anything extra - and here I'm talking about power particularly.

If it's sold in South Africa it should be plug-in and go.

I very much doubt the Brits would accept electrical goods being sold in their shops that had round 3-pins.

+1. Or if it is not the case at very least inform the customer. The ease of the replacement of the plug is a non-issue IMHO.

Indeed. I am with the OP on this one. Whilst it is common practice for USB devices not to include USB cables (which may seem counter-intuitive at 1st but actually makes a lot of sense - who doesn't have a spare on lying around anyway?), it is not common practice for good to be sold with a plug that does not fit into the wall socket of the country in which it is sold.

Those naff 2-prong jobs are bad enough, but at least they fit. I agree that the least the shop could have done is tell you about it before you bought it.

I would not have been happy, were I to find myself in the OP's situation either.

Appreciate that a lot. Some guys on the forum think I'm being petty and asking too much. I think its just common good service.

How many devices have you bought which have NO cable attached? I've had a few. What is the difference then between one with NO cable and one with a foreign plug? It's a five minute job... and real men will always relish changing a plug - it's one of those things we do that women can't do (or don't like to do)! ;) I guess it's only the pu$$ies who whine about having to change a plug! :p

LOL.

I have never received a product with no plug at all and if I ever did, I would be suitably unimpressed. Why should we be satisfied with defective products? It's not like you buy something and are pleasantly surprised when there is the right cable in the box, or even that there is a cable at all! Or at least you shouldn't be.

My devices usually have too many cables. Seriously an abundance except Apple who always seem to hit that clinical exact that I guess makes them worth mentioning.

To the person who created the mere concept of 2 prong and 3 prong plugs - I HATE YOU!

Happy plugging. :)

I am never surprised by it... cos I have spare plugs in a drawer. ;) How is it defective? I'm too buy appreciating the fact that I got a lekker discount! :)

I hate two prong plugs as well... I always cut them off. They never fit right.

Well, when you plug it in, it does not work, cos you can't plug it in :p

I would be less than impressed.

Whether or not it is easy to put your own plug on it, you should not have to do this, or at least you should be informed that it is not the finished product which you are purchasing.

Relish changing a plug.. I definitely can think of better ways to spend my time, but if you can't, sorry for you. Not every1 is an obsessive compulsive plug changer. And even a half wit can do it, nothing to be extremely proud of, as mentioned by other posters as well its something you should not HAVE to do.

That is the point. Which everyone seems to be missing.

it's something most of us don't mind doing... that is our point. It's only whiners and girlies who complain about it. :p

But, I will allow you guys your opinion. I see your point. I just don't think it's anything to get upset over! ;)

I'll leave you guys to get all het up about it! Cheers.

we aren't the ones resorting to name calling, maybe you should take it easy on the adjectives because you certainly did miss the issue. If changing plugs is your idea of manhood so be it, i do think you in a minority there. Cheers

LOL, yeah.

I could also put together the whole damn monitor from scratch if I really wanted to. Surely, when you go to a shop and buy it, you do so because you do not want or expect to have to put the thing together yourself?

No wonder service levels are so low, if people find this kind of thing totally acceptable.

Exactly, people are missing the difference between the ability to do something and the necessity thereof. Might as well go to a clothing store and ask for a reel of your favorite colour cotton and go home and be all macho and weave your shirt..... coz only whiners dont weave their own shirts :D

It seems like we should have no expectations of service levels anymore....as we can just make up for others incompetencies.

I abolutly hate 2 prong plugs! I've cut them off every thing in my house, except the cellphone chargers (can't do anything about those), and replaced them all with proper 3 prong SA plugs. I don't get why so much stuff comes with these 2 pin plugs.

I also got a really weird plug with my laptop, took Incredible Connection 2 weeks to get me a proper power cable.
