Some countries it's better to get a job before going.

Case in point The Netherlands.

If you get a job from the outside --> you get the 30% tax ruling
If you get a job from the inside --> you get squat
If you have a SA passport, you cannot get a job in the NL while here visiting or touring or whatever.

You can only work in the NL on a Highly Skilled Visa (MVV) which you can only get when sponsored by a company in the NL.

And this application can only happen from SA.

The 30% tax ruling comes afterwards.

Sure, but a ton of people have other passports --> get an offer while there, then screw up the tax ruling.

I've got 2 friends who were stupid enough to do that :X3: so it happens.

IMHO this thread is about South Africans emigrating...other people with other passports' experiences etc. does not really apply.

I'm a South African with dual passports, as are many others.

You're now being ANC'like and telling me I don't matter :whistling:.
One size doesn't fit all.

one of the dumbest responses in this thread thus far

No...you're just using micro-exceptions to try and prove your point.

People in your situation are an extremely small fraction of those that emigrate or want to emigrate.

The bulk are people with SA passports that need correct and pertinent information.

There is the exception of spouses. I mean, technically they get some of the benefits - like driver licence conversion - but they don't benefit from the increase in salary. Unless of course they are able to get a job outside NL as well before coming. Majority of those I've seen though, the spouses found a job whilst here already.

Guys a rando question here, trying not to derail here but how many of you know people with kids who are pulling their kids out of school to leave SA?

Knew a few parents waiting for their kids to matriculate but that seems to of changed and kids are pulled out asap

Know of three families that pulled kids out of school to come to NL. I have a lot of respect for the parents that do this and the kids that trooper through it. Not an easy decision.
I don't count myself as our child isn't school going age.

Want to but not planning to anytime soon. Not going anywhere. Australia would be #1 followed by somewhere like Belgium, Germany or Switzerland or even the French countryside.
