Nope, them white d/bs are larger than the standard blue&green d/b and are better secured.

I pretty much share your sentiment, but wouldn't say I am desperate for an upgrade. 384k is certainly irritating however, compared to what we know our 1st world counterparts get i.t.o. speeds. I think I'd be happy with 1mbps if they bumped us up one day, but probably would want higher speeds once I became used to it :)

[Edit] With the high cost of international and even SAIX local bandwidth, 1mbps would probably become a bitter-sweet experience though! :(

honestly, Faster would be nicer, but considering how we are being ripped off for decent internet, I'm content as hell on my 384k!. Telkom can go to hell before i pay more for broadband!.

The copper part to your house can't be 6km. It's 6km to the exchange but there must be a mini-exchange somewhere along the line, no? :confused:

I often view vids on YouTube and yes, it's very frustrating having to pause for a few seconds and then play, just in order to watch the clip smoothly.

384K is too slow but for me it isn't always the speed, it's the lack of available bandwidth to do proper multitasking online. I want to browse sites, while downloading another file, while doing a video conference and all of that is just too much for 384K to handle properly. 1 or 2 of the tasks usually suffer somehow. With proper bandwidth say 8Mbps all of that would be possible.

It is however true that we tend to get used to everything eventually. I was quite happy during the first week after getting 384K and then the excitement wore off. I'm sure if I got a 8Mbps connection I'd be happy, but after a month I'll be frowning because I can't stream movies properly or something. Will we ever be happy? :)
 
"We'll never be satisfied" syndrome aside, we all know Telkom are being complete a$$holes by not providing us with speeds that the line can handle (i.e. up to 4mbps) at no extra "access charge" cost. And the reason they do it is because they can and they know some people will give in and pay for a faster "line" speed by paying the extra they charge for 512k or 4mbps ADSL :mad:
 
I've no problems with 384 kbs, sites load fast and I do research and it just does it job for and the price it right for my pocket..... If in future an ISP can offer uncap and and affordiable price strucuture, certainly.. I'd gladly up my account but not going to pay R1000 a month..
 
Well the frustrating thing for me is multitasking on 38, it's just not possible. Try watching a Youtube vid with something downloading in the background or with updates running, it's horrible. If you have more than one PC using the network or even a console sharing the connection everything just sucks donkey balls.
 
I went from 56k to 386 about 2 months ago.
Loved the speed increase but now I crave more - just the price that's keeping me from getting 4mbps.

Same here.
I used to wait for call more time and "R7" weekend.
Great to be able to surf 24 hrs a day.

Telkom will probably bump our speeds up by year end.
 
I went from 512 to the 4Mb line. Now going down to 384. Surfing and e-mail is no different.
If they finally fix the local and cheapin the international rates then I might consider getting a faster line again.
SA broadband sucks
 
It will be in telkom`s interest to bump up the speed, won`t cost them much to do it, and we buy more of their expensive bandwidth.

They can put a nice PR spin to it as well.

They need to do a little something every couple of months.

That is when they normally do it, but that sounds very long to wait for the 4mbps trail which I'm sure is basically complete anyway. They might want to make 4mb official sooner and then bump the rest up 1 notch while they do it?

i.e. 384 -> 512
512 -> 1mb
1mb permanently -> 4mb

There's too much of a speed gap at the moment, especially for the price, generally being R75 more for a 4mb line over 512, whicle it's over R100 from 384 to 512. :confused:
 
I read an article once here IIRC that in the US that speeds above 1mb is considered "Broadband" - so NO - I'm not happy with my 384k line :D :p :rolleyes: ;)
 
Yep. i feel it too. When i first got 384k after having 56k, it was amazing. But now i it leaves allot to be desired. But first, we need uncapped.
