Are you hurting your ADSL ISP?

They aren't pointing fingers at users like you who consumes a reasonable amount of bandwidth on your account.

Users like you are paying more than you should so that the abusers can run their lines 24/7 at full speed bypassing the shaping.

I still reckon they just need to cancel abusers accounts after warning them, will ensure a far better service for the majority of users.

The only flaw with your explanation is that I'm not a light user at all, not that I ever monitor or care how much I use but I estimate in the hundreds of gigabytes, month after month. My line may not be maxed 24/7, but as a result of Telkom not giving me what they should, I'm forced to run at full capacity for as long as possible when I'm online or downloading after hours.

You have to stop calling people abusers for downloading 'too much' on an uncapped line which is shaped-managed by the ISP. Bypassing the shaping or running 24/7 is considered abuse, downloading as much as you like is not.

Breaking their FUP/AUP is also abuse, go to Europe try running an uncapped line there 24/7 and see if they will just let it got.

This is from a Dutch ISP:
ADSL Internet
Some of our broadband customers use file sharing software and download large files like music and videos. This uses up lots of network capacity leaving less available for you. If they're doing this at peak times, it could mean that the speed of your broadband service will be affected.
If you don't use file sharing software or download large files from the Internet it's unlikely you'll ever be affected by this policy. If you do, we ask you to do so considerately, perhaps by downloading outside the peak hours of 6pm to midnight. Don’t forget that media streaming, including the streaming of internet radio, contributes to your use of bandwidth and may, if left permanently on, cause you to be in breach of this policy.

If you only occasionally have very high usage on your ADSL internet, we're unlikely to be concerned. If your ADSL internet usage exceeds what we deem fair and reasonable for our residential customers and our residential service, we'll contact you to give advice and recommendations on how to reduce usage.
If high usage of your ADSL internet remains happening regularly, we may either have to reduce the transmission speed of your ADSL internet broadband while we continue to keep an eye on your usage, or suspend your ADSL internet service and/or possibly close your ADSL internet account without further prior notice and/or terminate the Double Play package service agreement.

If you want to download 24/7 at full line speed there are products out there that will dedicate your full line speed to you 24/7, just pay for it.

Home Uncapped ADSL services are not designed nor sold as products that allow 24/7 downloading, you read and agreed to the AUP/FUP before signing up for the product if you don't like it don't use it.

PS. I never mentioned free..
I know, but it seems many on this forum thinks that LLU will mean they don't pay an access fee anymore. Not only will they still pay it, but there's every chance it could go UP. ;)

pricing on LLU is likely to go up on the access side but should see a reduction on pricing for higher volume
