Yeah that's how I feel about it too.
I think it's a very short sighted and easy decision that was taken when unsure of what they actually should do.
As always though, the boys at the top don't take the time to understand how people on the ground feel and I can tell you now that everyone I interact with daily, from colleagues, to neighbors to people in our carpool are sh*t scared.
(Especially if you start breaking down the numbers of what happened the last time we were in junk status in the late 80's at a time when we were way more self sufficient than now).

Also, because of this "I wonder what's going to happen?!" feeling most people I know won't be marching, but if the company actually took a stance and implemented skeleton crew mode tomorrow and urged us all to take a stand most people would have gone (safety in groups, going with people you know, car pooling there etc. etc.)

Which I personally think is a sensible decision.

You can exercise your right to protest, but its not done on company time or with company branding.

This just it , the business as usual approach that most people including the government seem to only care about.

If that is all the government is interested in and if money is their game , then create an ideology of economic disobedience as opposed to civil disobedience, and hit them where it hurts the most, their pockets and coffers.

You really want to give government fuel for their 'white monopoly capital' fire? The ANC claims that it is a government for the people, by the people, and therefore they'd respond better to a social uprising: only it has to include their actual voter base, not just the opposition.

Yeah I don't have an issue with it. I'm not sure if I'd like business to get involved in politics - the two should always be separated IMO, otherwise we end up with the state capture crap we have now...

This protest is not the only way to take a stand. Very senior people at my employer may or may not have been involved in the undoing of mr weekend special.

I sure hope so, it's just interesting that these people, apparently, had the clout to force Zuma's hand after Nene-gate, in no more than a weekend's time even. Yet now things are eerily quiet on that front.

Or should I rather say it is scary if our last line of defense has been overpowered this time around?
