So here is a question to all the Virgin mobile subscribers, do you notice that your messages are often delayed when sending and receiving to another VM subscriber? Do you have the same problem when sending and receiving messages to other networks. If yes to the latter, do you think it is predominately sticking with your network (VM)?

I used to be with Virgin and could not stand the big delays, sometimes a sms to my girlfriend (on VM) would be delayed anywhere from a few minutes to 24 hours. So I have now moved to Vodacom, but the majority of my texts still go to my girlfriend on Virgin, and therefore still hang. My family is also on VM.

So what I am trying to figure out is, is it worth bringing my girlfriend and family over to Vodacom or MTN, because now i try to avoid texting and call as much as possible, but this can be pricey....

My other half's on Virgin, I'm with Vodacom. Sometimes my messages go through, sometimes they fail. Other half's messages also tend to come through sometimes as late as two days after they were sent.

Neither of us are too happy with them.

Other half's also had billing issues galore with them and still continues to have issues. Ever tried to contact someone to sort it? Good luck. The only place that can do anything is the call centre and that's assuming they can hear you and that you can hear them. Quality isn't worth pig excrement.

I would think people would complain more about the big delays in messages, but neither here nor on hello peter can I find much evidence of it affecting people as much as it does me. Hence my question....

I called to cancel my old contract with them which is still running, the call centre lady could not help me, she actually admitted to not knowing how and asked me to call again later. And after 4 emails VM has not replied to me, they are hopeless.

Anyways, thread back on track, anyone else experiencing messaging delays on VM or any other network?

I permanantly have that problem my other half either gets my msgs or gets them anything from 2 - 48 hours later and vice a versa guess its the price you pay for unlimited smse's

You should add a * to unlimited. Cause it Unlimited* SMS

Which actually means 1000 and if you exceed 1000 you will pay for your SMS.

*means fair use policy which in return mean 1000

Think i might just do this...

I was also very surprised that when the reliability of the networks came under scrutiny by ICASA, only call quality was looked at and nothing like messaging and data access.

Not if you fall under the old contracts Virgin 1st bought out I send up to 2500 smse's a month and I dont pay for them

Way too often (delayed mgs's). Can cause lots of frustration especially if the receiver receives it at 03:30 in the morning and it was sent at 19:00!

Are you still having issues with delayed SMS's? Won't you please DM me your name and number so I can get someone from Virgin to try and help? Thanks.

Yes, it happens very often. I've been to a Virgin Store and all they said is that it's network related.

None of my sms's have been coming in over the past few days. Anyone else experiencing problems?

They finally came in, but about 13 hours. late. (My banking login, debit orders etc.) Wonder why it took so long.

I haven't had this problem for a while, but the last couple of times it happened, I found that calling my voicemail sorted it out. It's almost as if the network does not know that you are there and the call just reminds it that you are actually there.

Happens to my girlfriend all the time, that's why I moved to Vodacom a few month ago (couldnt wait for my contract to expire) and my girlfriend will be moving in Feb when hers expires.

Just a word of warning, it is incredibly hard to get your contract cancelled at the end of it, make sure you call in often in your last month to advise them and write down your reference numbers! And then keep an eye out on your bank account to see what money they take out.

i would just like to point something out that i pointed out to my virgin using brother... i have vodacom and my messages are usually delayed and id say a fair amount never even send, i always have problems

i think its because virgin uses mostly have free sms's that you send them without thinking and you send far more than any other network so you see more problems than any other network... have you ever thought of that?

Sooooo fed-up with Virgin ...... sms's almost always delayed. Plus when the sms actually gets through to the recipient, the recipient will only receive HALF of the sms. Arrggghhh!!
