ARGH CPU upgrade dilemma advice!!

Yeah well let me buy it first then i'll see if I have to reload...hopefully it'll just take. I'll wipe out all my old drivers.
 
this is great i reckon I can hack a psu, mobo and cpu out of this upgrade. i'm becoming a quick fan of AMD :p

Ah looks like I've managed to finegle myself a 965BE for r1550 :D This is gonna be sweet.

I'm totally stoked about this. Will mean I finally have a system I can (somewhat) confidently call 'powerful' :p

So my specs will be:
965BE @3.4ghz (experiment with oc'ing later)
Some or other Asus 8200 am2+ board
4gb (2x2gb) DDR2800 with heatsinks
MSI N260GTX OCv3 Twin Frozr 216sp/896mb
wireless logitech desktop
Gigabyte Setto 1000 with fanmate controller
2433BW @ 1920x1200

also looking for a decent combination of CPU + MB + GPU + PSU. i have 4 gigs of ddr2 800's so no need for that. intel what i want with nvidia card. just not sure which m/b to stick it into same as the psu. gpu would be 260 216 cores or maybe 275. cpu well i thought that the 2.83 quad was not in a bad spot between the 2.6xx and the 3.xxx. m/b budget range up too 1.5/6K.

Necuno I'd give that card full recommendation :D Will outperform a 4890 on average, overclocked even more so.

ok. so msi is ok to buy then. only brands i've used so far was asus/gigabyte/leadtek/BFG. i was however under the impression that msi was a crappy brand :confused:
 
MSI is getting a lot better recently I think:

The OC V3 delivers excellent performance in both stock and overclocked trim for a price point that really can't be beaten by any GTX 260 with non-reference cooling right now.

the cooling is the best I've used on any card - and I've had a lot.

Actually correction I also had an MSI 9600gt and it was also a very nice card, good cooler.

ok, because that is one of my main concerns is heat from and the handling of heat by the gpu. since we all know we live about in hell at times in the summer.
 
so...you're looking for a NEW Intel board/cpu combo with a PSU?

I'd say a Vantec ion2+ 550 would be great at r760
Then do you want to go lga775 or 1156?
 
I've never had it go above 50c - normal is around 35c. I can always touch it with my bare hands even on full load.

i need new
cpu (intel quad something, thought 2.83 was nice deal. 775)
mb (not sure which one)
psu (700w-ish i think? need to drive 2x hdd, 1x cd, 1x gpu)
gpu (nv 260 or 275)

it got
ram, case, key+ms, lcd and so on.

...go and have look at the vantecs
