ARGH CPU upgrade dilemma advice!!

mmm... R2500 is too much for a 260, even if it is kick-ass.

Esquire have the P7P55D for quite a bit less, R1368.

well it is not just an 260, it is an OC, 216 cores with aftermath cooler already there;). its around R2300 with vat from corex. time to look at esquire ;)

That price is actually not too bad for that card, I just looked again. It's just that ATi are giving much better value for money at the moment. I would say get a 4890 1gb for under R2k but seeing as you're stuck on nVidia try getting a GTX 275.

well the 275 is tempting, but only if i order it directly from one of the wholesalers :D

The benchmarks show this 260 outperforming 4890 at stock fairly consistently - so I don't think it's overpriced. It's actually a very good price for what it gives - equal to the old 280's most of the time.

So I finally got all my components and popped it in last night. Unfortunately Win7 wouldn't take the chipset swap so I had to reinstall which was a bit of a schlep. But it's a beautiful cpu, I think I definitely made the right move going with AMD. MW2 gets 60fps rock solid now.

amd suck :D

sure the upgrade rocks at it should - nice :)

Ok current system:

965be@stock 3.4ghz
m3n78-vm am2+ board
MSI twin frozr 260 216sp
4gb ddr2800
2433BW

Meh I don't care about amd vs intel - if you can build a 2ndhand equivalent speed Intel system for under 2k then go you.

killadoob - i7 or amd 965? :p

Where did you get the amd cerebus?

2.8k is a lot of cash for that cpu. For that i could import a mobo and cpu plus memory :D

I got it from prophecy forums for r1550 inc shipping. I don't really buy new hardware. I saw someone selling another 965 for like 1800 or so recently.

R2.8K for a 965BE? I think that's the old price from last Nov/Dec.
Should be about R2.2K-R2.4K depending on where you buy. Unless there's been a kick in the price real recently.
