Article: Abandon capitalism: Numsa

The National Union of Metalworkers of SA on Sunday called for capitalism to be abandoned saying it had failed South Africans.

"We at Numsa have no illusion that only a total destruction of capitalism and all it represents, can save the earth and give birth to a new civilisation," Irvin Jim told reporters in Johannesburg.

I wonder what alternative they are proposing....

Capitalism is by no means or measure perfect but it is the best we have at the moment.

This person, like many before him, craves power and the ability to extract wealth from those that lack power.

All these people are against capitalism because capitalism is the only economic model that works in an unopposed society.

I meant unoppressed society.

Show me all the flaws in capitalism and I will show you those exact same flaws in every other system.

The problem is human behaviour and as long as you have humans, you'll get bad behaviour. It is only made worse when you add government and legal coercion to the mix.

Capitalism is the only system that can function without requiring legal coercion.

Capitalism is working in SA - despite the idiots who think they will get more votes by promising "financial equality" to the masses. Sadly, the masses are being kept under control by the very "anti-capitalist" rhetoric spouted by morons who can offer no viable alternative.

SA is not a capitalistic society. There are people who are practicing and engaging in capitalism but the rampant thievery of government, progressive taxation and redistribution of wealth are killing what little wealth generation that exists.

If you don't make enough money to enjoy a life or you don't have a job, blame your nearest "progressive" socialist or whatever they are calling themselves these days (too many to list and it keeps on changing).

Let's also abandon MORALS, fairness, justice and COMMON SENSE

First, let's kill all the ANIMALS, and then we can find out where they are hiding their MONEY. Once we've done that we can debate marxist theory.

The problem is unscrupulous lying power hungry 'capitalist' politicians promising freebies for votes that capitalism or any other system can't deliver. Once you've engrained entitlement into a society you are in trouble. Naturally once 'capitalism' fails to deliver they'll turn to something else.

So if we abandon capitalism then what are the working class going to spend their money on?

Do unions even exist in communist regimes? He might then have a point...

True, but the bigger problem is with people who take them seriously. By themselves, politicians only emit hot air; they need desperate and/or stupid and/or lazy and uncivilised people to turn the hot air into action.

It's the uncivilised masses that turn a functional capitalistic economy into a socialist nightmare.

For more, see Venezuela as a very recent example. It's not the rich that get shafted, most have the resources to escape. It's the supporters that wake up one day to find no food, no toilet paper, no amenities and a currency worth much less than toilet paper.

Capitalism sucks

I am not saying communism is good, but htf can you say capitalism is good. It is a game that you willingly play where only a few will win and yet you celebrate your slavery, as if communism is just stupid. The idea that capitalism works is retarded. 1% win the rest trade their freedom and time to join the rat race until they retire.

Have a look at nature. When new life is born it is entitled to nothing and the only way it survives and prospers is if it takes risks. Capitalism is that same essence of nature applied to economics.

The fittest (risk takers) survive. The rest needs to die. It is the law of nature.

so which risk taker would build roads, schools, bridges and all the other public goods that bring benefit to society but no profit?

which risk taker is going to ensure there are regulations and standards to protect consumers against unsafe products?

which risk taker is going to enforce contracts?

No risk taker. It will be an organisation that spunges off risk takers, one prone to corruption and nepotism. I think they call it government.

funny because the last time I checked the risk takers were busy stealing from government (taxpayers) and only received a slap on the wrist.
