Article: Affirmative action reasonable?

Affirmative Action, BEE and BBBEE are not a joke but are components of the big bomb that will wipe South Africa as a functioning country off the map; and the bomb is ticking.

AA will be here until there is no more whites let in SA.

Two wrongs?

Sorry are you comparing our current situation to that of the old days under the white government?

Fixed it!

And yes We can compare the 2.
Both are a Government initiative aimed at the specific/targetted upliftment of 1 race/type of people through the specific/targetted supression of another. Fundamentally speaking, both are wrong, regardless of the fact that in one case it was to raise an already advantaged people higher, and in the other it is to raise a previously disadvantaged people higher.
Both are targetted discrimination.
Both are utterly racist.
Both are unreasonable.
Both are completely contradictory to human rights and equality.

The difference is, that the Nats imposed law was never run under the banner of human rights, it was run under the banner of oppression. People knew it, some supported it, many did not. But all knew in their hearts that it was wrong.
The current imposed discrimation is run under a government claiming the righteous position of equality and the upliftment of human rights. They claim that their cause is just and good. They have just taken the same turd and polished it up with the human rights bill. Its still the same turd, no matter how you dress it up.

Well put post, could not have been explained any better than that.

Affirmative Action, BEE and BBBEE are wrong.

but, what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger...

I am gatvol of victims , specially those of Affirmative Action, BEE and BBBEE. It is time to get of your fat ass and start living your life in my opinion.

There is nothing inherently wrong with racial discrimination in principle, but the specific implementation has to be carefully considered and it is not something that can be done in isolation. It would probably also need to operate for a minimum of two generations, but obviously is not something that should exist in perpetuity.

And I am gatvol of people that think mere effort can counter the governmental laws. Have you ever been to an interview where they tell you at the start. "You wont get the job because this is an AA posting, we just needed you in here for the demographics, sorry".?
Personally AA has not hurt me too much yet because I am in a career that is quite frankly, difficult for Africans to excel in right now. I only chose this career because of that fact though.

There is a difference between; being a victim and laying about crying, not trying to do your best. And publicly condeming AA, BEE, BBBEE. I am no victim, that doesn't mean I cannot point out its flaws.
Have you ever been a victim of rape? If not, does that mean you cannot join the outcry against it?

Find out where the line is drawn between being a victim and being an "Activist". Then try not to confuse the two.

I did get off my fat(?) ass. I lost most of my contracts due to my BEE status. I had to retrench all of my staff.

That in itself may not be so bad, but I also sponsored all of their kids to attend semi-private schools, after care, sports, extra lessons, boarding school, school outings, school camps, music lessons and a few other activities. I believe in quality of education.

When their kids had to find alternative education this year, 3 out of the 5 girls got themselves pregnant and most of the boys never bothered going to their "new" school and dropped out. I was devastated - I saw these kids grow up in front of me, spent many hours tutoring them. I cried with them through many failures and we rejoiced together when we overcame them no matter how small, or large, the obstacles...

I can pick up my life and move forward. They cannot.

So, when you feel like making inane statements like that above, please go screw yourself... :)

Good post SoulTax.

Listen ... the perpetually disadvantaged are always going to need a leg-up. They will never be able to compete equally especially considering the attitude of government towards education and the expectation of entitlement from the perpetually disadvantaged. AA/BEE will be with us until we have a change in government (and that's not going to happen until people stop voting from a sense of nostalgia and BS promises of free stuff)

One advantage of AA for everyone is that if you are prepared to be a bit patient and build up your skills and experience ... prove that you can do the job ... there are so many incompetent poephols in positions that you will be able to earn a good living without working yourself to death.

I seriously feel that I earn more than I would have if AA had not been around. Many of my really skilled colleagues have left the country for whatever reason.

or work yourself into a standstill because of a skill shortage. We are currently running on 1/2 the staff we should. When the people leave or gets told to leave due to incompetence they just do not replace them. IT is easier to work the people you have to death than try to get rid of lazy incompetent lying asses.
