Article: "Avatar 2" will take viewers underwater

Some have already acknowledged the thin story/characters which I suspected will be the achilles heel.

Story was done and dusted in the first movie.


I'm just going for the eye candy.

Think I've only seen two or three 3D movies and I must say I was blown away by Avatar in 3D. I thought it was the real start of the 3D era. Anyway, as with the sequel to Top Gun, I'll make a mission to go see this one in the way it's meant to be seen.

On Titanic and the first Avatar, Cameron clashed with Fox execs over budgets and the films’ potential to earn them back. But his relationship with Disney has, so far, been a smooth one. “Maybe it’s still a honeymoon phase,” Cameron says. “I don’t know. We’ll see. If the movie doesn’t make money, then, maybe, the honeymoon’s over.” He cites his transparency, telling the studio early on if he feels something may shift in the schedule, and says he respects Disney’s marketing prowess. It may also be that his era of F-bomb-laden shouting matches with executives is behind him. “A lot of things I did earlier, I wouldn’t do — career-wise and just risks that you take as a wild, testosterone-poisoned young man,” he says, declining to specify further. “I always think of [testosterone] as a toxin that you have to slowly work out of your system.”
 
Cameron's bad take on testosterone aside, whether misconstrued or not, the movie is definitely worth a watch.
Especially for a family with children a bit older than say 9-10. The previous movie wasn't really suited for children, but this one is much more child friendly.
It's also refreshing seeing a movie with a strong family focus and anyone with one would be able to relate to what is happening on screen.

As for the long watch time you won't be caught looking at your phone/watch unlike in other movies. For the more obvious need to get up I recommend the app :p

So the writing and dialogue is flat which will likely have you unintentionally laughing and there are quite a bit of logical inconsistencies. These are all well known weak points of Cameron movies.
On the plus side the visuals are amazing and the under water visuals make those of Black Panther 2 look like they were done by a bunch in kindergarten.
Worth it to again mention the whole relatable familial story and lack of ham-fisted ideological messaging.

In short it is one of the 2 popcorn blockbusters this year along with Top Gun.
