Yes, the routes are dangerous, Chapman's Peak... near every time I hear people going there they are robbed.

LOL, you make Chappies sound like Hillbrow. I stop along Chapman's Peak weekly, and regularly walk in the area. Never seen a hint of a problem personally. Yes, there is the occasional petty theft out of a car or something when some fool leaves valuables lying around, but as for people being robbed "near every time they go there", I don't think so.

Honestly, there is nothing wrong with the ZOO I often go there, was there last month. The only problem with bloed street is the construction, the area is too busy with hawkers in the day to be.

How does PTA soon compare to JHB zoo btw? Is it worth the drive to PTA or is JHB good enough? (Have to keep visiting family busy over December)

There is absolutely no problem with the PTA zoo, the cable car from time to time must be serviced however that just means that you need to walk up the mountain. The place is properly managed and there is secured parking. Getting into it might be a problem due to the construction on bloed street.

I've been there before when I was little. I live in JHB though so is the PTA zoo worth driving too considering the JHB Zoo is 15 km away?

PTA zoo is a bit of a nightmare now with the BRT road construction now.

The point that people is trying to make is the increase with not only the crime, but also the violence. Our economy don’t have the capacity to supply the unemployed, which is only one variant at play here.

kids could still drive their bicycles to the corner cafe and buy some sweets and stuff. now they will either get raped or kidnapped or the most obvious is robbed...

its so sad to see a country with such potential go down the drain...

most houses back in the day had those 1.5m high walls and that was it. even only fences were sufficient back then...

People are over paranoid, really. I did a bicycle tour through SA and slept along the road or in small township areas in 2011 and 2012. Just don't be a bloody idiot and you will be okay.

I was robbed on my way to the zoo last year. They are violent but they're also stupid.

I think most of our thieves are from outside our borders. I generally find south africans to be smarter than the rest of africa - all races included.

Edit: people outside the zoo are also friendly. Just don't ask them for directions....
