reportedly covers the content prior to the direct quote:
the ATKV staffer reportedly asked that a black bride shown on the brochure for the Klein-Kariba holiday resort

So if in an email I set out a set of averments and quote from an attached annexure wherein the quote can be found a 2nd person would relay the report and retain the quote on confirming its veracity from the annexure.
 
Their not having had a black wedding in 7 years might have something to do with their attitude. If blacks who are looking for wedding venues get the impression that they're not welcome (which they're bound to do if the hosts are not in favour of black weddings), they'll likely look elsewhere. This can then allow the hosts to target the market that they want (white) by claiming that blacks don't use the facility so are not part of the target market.

It's like waiters who give bad service to blacks because "blacks don't tip" & then don't get tipped because of their shoddy service. Becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

If they're racist, that is their belief. They have the right to address any target market they wish and advertise how they see fit.

If the contents of the email are true, the manager is ignorant and shouldn't be two-faced in denying it
 
Why are people so fascinated with racism? This is certainly borderline racism but dear lord, it doesn't warrant media coverage. Clearly this woman is simply generalising about black people and used it as a justification for requesting something else.

It's the most banal form of racism around and hardly interesting...

well this is what I find interesting. I read the article and though meh o dammit another instance of insidious racism if I was her boss I'd have to have a decent talk and the ATKV really needs a statement covering bases but why is this a news article?

I then read the comments and saw an attempt to deny that there is any racism at play - notwithstanding a clear statement - and am finding myself wondering why. In fact as with so many things the cover up is more important than the story - in as much as there is a coverup.

Two things here:

1. Using the black like me example, whites can still go buy black like me if they want to.
2. It seems to me this place doesn't want black people on their brochure as they don't want black people there because they think they will wreck it = racism.

Black people can still go there. They just don't have black people on their advertising.

I didn't say blacks CAN'T go there, I said this place doesnt want black people there as they "party outside the rules". It couldn't be any more clearer. Those read-between-the-lines comprehensions at school must have really been a challenge for you.
 
Why is that the moment some people are not included in something it is immediately labeled as racism? Why is it such an issue that the AFRIKAANSE Taal- en Kultuurvereniging omitted black faces from their material?

To those playing the racism card, when last did you see anything remotely white about: Black Information Technology Forum, Black Lawyers Association, Association for the Advancement of Black Accountants of South Africa, Black Management Forum,Black Business Council of South Africa, Black Farmers and Agriculturalists Association, National Society of Black Engineers, the Association of Black Securities and Investment Professions, the Black Business Women’s Association ... ??

Honestly, everyone cant be included in everything. Society is not one massive orgy.

Hello, this is an Afrikaans cultural society. Would it be racist for the Zulu cultural society, if one exists, to request that a Japanese guy be taken off the cover of their news letter?
 
the issue for most of us here isn't the lack of inclusivity or the fact that there is market targeting it is particular remarks by a particular staff member. The sort of nonsense that happens all the time in South Africa and is racism taking place from sections of all communities. However great comedy from the BMF page:

As DJ said its banal racism my interest is in the hysterical response trying to conflate two distinct issues: audience targetting

- you see it would be perfectly sound for somebody to start an voortrekker wedding theme structure fit with an ox wagon an ou taal language use setting and mid-Victorian era rokke to go with. They would naturally advertize to a primarily white (and probably a little bit cooked) audience. What would not be acceptable is having a black person who wants the wedding told that they can't. What would not be acceptable is for the designer of a poster to be told that black couples "marry differently, want to party outside resort rules and at best come here to take photos at the dam". It is a stupid comment that should be taken as such - this isn't an issue about the graphic design team being told that the poster did not appeal to the target audience it is an instance of a stupid racist comment being made.

We have the same crap coming from the organizations you mention. The idea of a Black Management Forum (which doesn't have an exclusionary membership policy per se) is fine but when Jimmy Manyi says something racist it shouldn't be defended on the basis that he is the chairperson of that body - which is the sort of crap that happened.

It wouldn't but it would be a problem if they said we can't have no Jap man there because he just want to take photograph si
and "want to party outside resort rules" is the same thing
