Article: Centurion power cut caused by vandalism

Large parts of Centurion in Gauteng were without electricity since early Sunday morning due to the Brakfontein substation being vandalised, the City of Tshwane said.

"The areas affected are Brakfontein, Rooihuiskraal, Amberfield, the Reeds, Noordwes, Thatchfield, and Wierda Park," spokesman Moeketsi Bokaba said in a statement.

Sounds more like sabotage than vandalism, this is after all an essential service.

And the punishment thereof should be legislated to equate to that of sabotage.

Yup last night at midnight they were still working on it.. There is still no power :-( I'm hoping it's restored before my freezer starts defrosting in a big way. :-(

Last night they said 3 days with no power.

That's 3 days if we are lucky and they can get all the parts.
If not, then they might only be able to fix it by Friday :(
Fun times with a 1.5yr old in the cold and even rain yesterday.
Definitely sabotage, more copper elsewhere to be found than inside the station.

Do you have people that can help? this is horrid.
May the ******* fry on the next live cable he snips.

As long as the current economic situation persists, I'm afraid this is only going to get worse.
In the end people are probably going to have to self provision their own electricity (solar PV) and water (boreholes?) because we appear to be heading for another Bulawayo or Harare type situation.
