Cops are everywhere in Cape Town. Haven't seen such a police presence before.
Found it quite ironic today when I saw a cop car parked on a red line under a no parking sign - while the cop was on the other side of the road about 50m away fining people for doing the same... wish I had my cellphone for a picture.

On New Years we are going to a friends 40th in Gordons Bay and have already made plans to sleep over as I will not take a chance. I think its excellent.
I also live 800m from a popular pub in Somerset West and have already noticed that law enforcement is more active in the early hours.
Its a good thing.

Have not seen many cops in JHB.They should always clamp down on drunk drivers though

The cops are on nearly every second off-ramp on the R21 and N1 in JHB. Armored vehicles as well. Seen lots of skorokoro's, trucks and taxi's pulled over

Funny thing is that I've not seen one roadblock or a cop on patrol this festive season.
But I too don't bother having a drink and then driving. Sleep it off. I don't get behind the wheel plastered or tipsy.

I got pulled over about two months ago - it was the same night I decided drinking and driving wasn't worth the risk ... luck was on my side. Now we take the MyCity bus to town - and a taxi back...

How much is the bus and the taxi?
Bus is R10 per person, and taxi is around R160... So if you're four, it ends up at R40 per person back, what ever time. Some of the taxis can take up to 8.
Absolutely - Cape Town does have public transport which works and is generally safe - but what do you do in PTA / JHB?
